the Pilates exercise descriptions, workout routines and in-depth articles included
in our FitTracker fitness
tracking program. Each Pilates expert brings their knowledge, background and expertise
to help all of our clients learn about this form of exercise and to follow our
Pilates workout routines safely and effectively.
Sherman Oaks, California
At age 3, after being dragged to her sisters
ballet class, Suzi decided to become a dancer. By age 7 she was performing onstage
with the Pasadena Dance Theatre, and by 17 was dancing professionally in TV, movies,
music videos and commercials. She was the lead dancer in Pepsis 1996 Superbowl
ad that won the Cleo award for best commercial that year. After touring from LA
to Japan with the LA Knockers, a cabaret troupe, she began choreographing
TV specials and rock concerts abroad. This led to her work as assistant choreographer
on the 70th Academy Awards, and on the Ricky Martin La Vida Loca tour.
Today, at 44, she still dances professionally, appearing in the award winning
ballet Threnody, and credits the longevity of her career to the power
of Pilates workout.
Playa del Rey, California
Rochelle was certified with her Advances in Pilates
Technique through LBDC and the Movement Academy with the well-respected Marie-Jose'
Blom-Lawrence. She has a studio one block from the beach in the charming Playa
del Rey, CA community. Rochelle focuses on teaching a style of Pilates that will
help clients gain strength, flexibility, and coordination in a safe and effective
way. Before opening her own studio, Rochelle worked with a physical therapist
in Beverly Hills in applying Pilates technique for rehabilitation. She also spent
her time working with clients at their homes, teaching at various studio and teaching
Seniors in Santa Monica.
New York, New York
Lesley Powell, the founder and director of Movements
Afoot, is a Certified Laban Movement Analyst and a certified PhysicalMind Pilates
teacher. She has been a trainer at Sports Training Institute, Doral Fitness, Plus
One, Dr. Bachrach's Osteopathic Center for Sports and Dance Medicine and JRW,
a physical therapy practice using Pilates for rehabilitation. Lesley has been
on the faculty of Drew University from 1990-2002, teaching classes in modern dance,
dance history and choreography. Lesley is a guest lecturer/teacher internationally
about her unique knowledge of the body and fitness.
Los Angeles, California
Kim has been teaching the methods of Joseph Pilates
for 7 years. Trained at A Body of Work and certified by the Physical Mind Institute
in 1998, Kim is dedicated to furthering her knowledge and has studied with Maria
Leone of Bodyline fitness in 2001. As a teacher, she encourages her students to
stay attune to their bodies by taking notice of their strengths and weaknesses
and to strive toward incorporating Pilates movements into their everyday lives.
She is certified in Standing Pilates, a functional application of the standard
Pilates exercises. She is a member of the Pilates Method Alliance, has a degree
in Associate of Arts from Santa Barbara City College and also has a Fashion Degree
from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
Sarah was certified in 1998 by the Pilates Guild
under the direction of Romana Kryzanowska. A former professional ballet dancer,
Sarah studied the Pilates Method throughout her entire career and still continues
to practice the method along with being an avid yogi. After retiring from the
dance world, she began teaching Pilates full-time. Sarah continued her studies
with workshops/classes taught by renowned teachers such as Kathy Grant and Bob
Liekens. She became a member of the Pilates Method Alliance in 2003.

Robin has been working professionally in the dance
and fitness industry for over 30 years, performing, choreographing and teaching
Jazz Dance, Ballet and Fitness/Exercise classes. For many years she has been teaching
in numerous fitness clubs such as Equinox, Sports Club LA, New York Sports Club,
Crunch and at Steps on Broadway a very popular dance studio in NYC. Robin specializes
in teaching her signature class, Classically Stretched, which she developed in
the early 80's. This class consisted of a beginner-intermediate ballet barre,
with no jumping/impact, and finished with stretch and relaxation.
