Cardio Questions - Cardio Workouts on Weight Training Days

fitness-advice Question:
I read that cardio should be done on separate days from muscle training. I'm following a muscle training schedule, which is the push and pull routine. How can I incorporate all of the muscle training as well as cardio training into a five day workout regimen?

fitness-advice Answer:
You can mix in your cardio training several ways. One way is to do cardio on the weekend (Sat, Sun) and keep your weight training sessions on the weekdays. Although, this would make your workout plan a 7-day routine. For these two days of cardio, I would recommend more high intense sessions consisting of jumping rope or running. This way you can burn major calories and create a calorie deficit.

The other way to incorporate your cardio into your plan is to mix them into your weight training schedule. You can do 45 minutes of weight training followed by 20-30 minutes of cardio work consisting of any type of cardio exercises to burn calories (moderate to intense). Treadmill work or elliptical training work very well. Although this does conflict a little with your weight training sessions, you can limit the cardio work to 3 days per week (Mon, Wed, Fri). This should produce great results!
