Cardio Questions - Elliptical Trainers and Knee Pains

fitness-advice Question:
I just started doing the elliptical trainer and have noticed that for the past two days the top of my knees have been hurting. I tried warming up before going on the trainer and doing some leg stretches. Is there something else I should be doing or could I possibly be using the machine incorrectly?

fitness-advice Answer:
I would first consult with your local physician to make sure your knee pain isn't something more serious. You want to make sure your knees are not damaged in anyway before exercising. If your doctor doesn't find any serious issues, you may want to find a lower impact form of exercise like rowing or punching a heavy bag (boxing) for your cardio work. This should take a lot of tension off your knees and still give you a great workout.
