Exercise Questions - How Should I Train
For Basketball?
Exercise Question: I play basketball everyday. I want to make my arms
bigger. Should I train with heavier weights? Also at my gym they have a machine
where you can do abs with weights. Are those more effective and quicker to get
the 6 pack, and also can I do that machine abs with weight everyday?
Exercise Answer: If you're playing basketball, you really want to make
you don't get too sore from your arm workouts since this may impair your ability
to shoot and pass. Try and really ease your way into each workout with lighter
weights and higher reps. I would recommend waiting for the off-season to really
get into the heavier weights.
In terms of the weighted ab exercises, they
will be much more intense and build your abdominal muscles up bigger/stronger
than only using only your bodyweight. Train abs like any other muscle and make
sure to let them recover from an intense workout. I recommend giving your abs
at a least 48 hours for recovery before training them again. The real key
to 6-pack abs is having a very low level of body fat and this comes with a very
clean nutritional plan and cardio work. Since you should be getting enough cardio
through basketball, I recommend really focusing on eating clean. Make sure to
document everything you eat daily and you will start to see quickly where any
empty calories are coming from. You can download our free diet journal here:
