Exercise Questions - How Can I Tone Up
My Abs and Arms?
Exercise Question: I want to know about some muscle toning exercises.
I'm limited to a treadmill in my home. After doing the treadmill, I feel that
my hip size reduces, which I don't want. I actually don't want to reduce my breasts
or hips in any way. I really want to focus on toning and shaping only my abs and
arms. Can you help?
Exercise Answer: If your training equipment is limited, the best exercises
to tone your abs are sit-ups and hanging leg raises. You can do hanging leg raises
from any bar or raised beam in your house/office. Just make sure you can get a
solid grip and that its high enough to let your feet dangle. Hold onto the bar/beam
with your palms facing out and slowly raise your legs to your stomach and then
lower them slowly. Here is an example of the hanging leg raise:
For your arms, you will want to use the same
bar/beam and do pull-ups/chin-ups. This will really work your biceps and back
muscles. Hold onto the bar/beam with your palms facing in and slowly pull your
body up as far as you can go and then lower slowly. This is a tough exercise,
so don't get discouraged if you can only do 1-3 reps when first starting out.
Stick with it and you will become much stronger and really develop your arms/back.
Here is an example of pull-ups/chin-ups:
