Choose Happiness – How Self Esteem Affects Everything in Life

0

Have you ever just woken up in a bad mood? I think we’ve all had days where we wake up and just don’t feel like being happy. From there we notice our day only gets worse and we feel so unmotivated. Everything may seem to annoy us from the alarm clock going off to the traffic on our way to work. Did you know there’s a way to make yourself happier?

Yes, you’ll be happy to hear that there really is a proven method of making yourself happier! The secret is out of the bag and it’s called CHOICE. Every one of us has the power and opportunity to choose how happy we will be every day and every moment in our life. It is when we make up our mind to be happy and stay in a good mood when things start to turn around. A long time ago I learned that I cannot control others moods, motives, or circumstances. However, the one thing I could always have the power to control was my reactions to them.

I realized that the only person making me feel unhappy or have low self-esteem was me. I also realized that the only person who had the power to change it was me. There was a point where I didn’t have very many friends and the ones I did have didn’t seem to care about me. I spent many nights upset and crying because I felt lonely and as if no one liked me. Then a light bulb came on in my head one day and I realized it was my own fault. I was allowing people to treat me as if I was unworthy and not only did I allow them to treat me this way, I started to believe it myself. Someone once told me, if you want friends you need to show yourself friendly. I started getting out more, speaking with others, encouraging others, and having my own hobbies and goals. I eventually met encouraging like-minded friends who built me up and valued my friendship.

Choosing happiness and self-esteem affects everything we do in life. It affects our health, our friendships, family, relationships in general, our career, and ultimately who we are. Choosing to have self-esteem and not pity for ourselves changes everything. No one can truly appreciate you and value you until you learn to love and value yourself. For many years I struggled with low self-esteem and looked to others to build me up. I am so happy that I finally realized the only person who can truly build me up is me. It is now my goal and passion in life to help others who have low self-esteem and a negative outlook in life to change their lives for the better. Anyone who believes they are not good enough or not worth it believes a lie.

If you want to be stronger and healthier than ever, start believing more in your strengths and abilities. It is up to you to push yourself to be the very best version of you possible. Other people can inspire you to do better but it’s truly up to yourself to go beyond your limits. It is when you start letting your own light shine that others become inspired to shine theirs as well. You were created for greatness and to shine. Don’t hold back your abilities and talents in the world. It is actually selfish when we hold ourselves back from all we could be and should be. It’s selfish not only to others but to ourselves as well.

I encourage you to take some time from your busy life to just reflect on all the wonderful things that make you who you are. Write down all your wonderful qualities, your dreams, your fears, your hopes. Get to know yourself and become your own best friend. I mean you do have to live with yourself for the rest of your life. It’s like any good relationship whether it’s with a family member, friend, boyfriend, husband, fiancé, etc. you have to nurture it and water it in order for it to grow. The same is true with a plant. If you don’t take care of a plant and water it, it will never grow and it will die. Don’t let your dreams and your self-esteem die. Make yourself and all that you are a priority and constantly focus on your strengths, dreams, and building yourself up. Bathing is recommended daily because it doesn’t last, the same is true with motivation and inspiration.

Every morning when I wake up I make sure to read something inspirational or look at something inspirational. I learned from a teacher back in college that it’s important to stay motivated and to make this a priority in your life. It’s easy to get down on yourself and your weaknesses. It takes much more effort to build yourself up and build others up on your own journey. It may not always be easy but it will definitely be worth it. The more deposits you make into your personal bank account and yourself, the better things will be. I always tell myself, “Nikki, you ain’t seen nothing yet!”. I always hope for the best and push myself to my limit. When I’m feeling down and depressed I make sure to put myself around people who love me. I make sure to be around those that will lift me up and not bring me down.

It is important to surround yourself with people who are successful, work hard, and most of all are positive. Attitude is the one thing in my opinion that is greater than money, success, and hard work. I would rather be around someone with a great attitude than someone who was famous with a negative attitude. Choose your attitude, choose to be happy, and most of all choose to be you. You were created for your own unique purpose and have unique abilities and talents. Don’t let your life pass you by before it’s too late to use all that you’ve been blessed with.
