Fat Burning Questions - Maximum Calorie Burning Exercises

fitness-advice Question:
I'm 31 yrs old, and I haven't exercised or worked out since high school. When I was into my training, I was pretty hard core. I worked out everyday, and got pretty big so I still have a little of my build, minus my torso and spare tire.

Is the exercise bike as effective for burning fat, as running? I have broken both my ankles, on two separate occasions and they kill me to even to walk in the morning and bring me to my knees when I do try to run for almost any length of time. I cant afford a membership anywhere. If I was to do a bike, how many miles a day would I have to ride per day, if I did it five times per week?

fitness-advice Answer:
In terms of a caloric burn, running burns many more calories than biking. However, The most important aspect is which exercise to use on a regular basis, day in an day out. If your feet hurt, biking will be perfect to burn calories and lose The extra body fat. I would recommend focusing more on time than distance. Go out and ride your bike for 20-30 minutes at first and see how you feel. If you feel good, increase it to 45-60 minutes. Biking is an excellent workout and will work your quads, hamstrings and calves.
