Fitness Modeling - Tips To Enter The
Fitness Models Business
One of the most common emails I get about fitness modeling is how
to get more opportunities. The Internet is a great tool which has brought marketing
to an accessibility that was not available 10 years ago. Models can have online
portfolios without having to know any sort of web design. There is no need to
pay web design costs, all you have to do is choose a reputable model networking
web site, create an account and upload your pictures. You can be seen easier and
within the modeling market niche you prefer by posting at several sites. You
also save a bit of money by being able to refer potential jobs to an online portfolio
saving you the printing costs of photos. I suggest a nice photo business card
with your favorite portfolio URL. Of course I stress that you need to be careful,
ensure you get proper ID and legitimate licensed business contacts. Do not go
to meet anyone alone or without thorough research on the legitimacy of the person,
company or job. As a fitness model it is competitive making it difficult
to earn full time money at jobs, but a small number of fitness models do get paid
work. Making it a full time job is highly unlikely, but a side job maybe. You
do want to have a print portfolio but make contacts online. You can enter some
online cover girl contests which are another way to get yourself out there. Locally
you will want to look at your local papers, the smaller neighborhood ones sometimes
have sunshine girl type sections and you can apply to be featured on that. This
is a great start to your tear sheet collection. Submit your photos to several
fitness magazines; you may not hear back or you may get a spot in their amateur
sections which would be ideal. On occasion, if they really like your look and
you as a bonus live in the same state or province of the publications office,
may get called for magazine editorial shoots which are paid! If you know
a few photographers then do some TFP, time for print modeling. This will give
you practice in front of the camera and teach you how to pose and which poses
work for you. You may even develop a signature pose. Once you have some fitness
shots you can also submit to catalogues and see if they will consider using you
for their future catalogues. In many cases you won't get paid for this but you
will get to keep a bunch of clothing worth a few hundred or so. These are
just a few ideas to help you get started! Once you network you will notice that
people you have networked with will remember you for jobs that come up that they
have or know of someone. Once you work on a few jobs you have a great chance of
being called back if they liked you and you made yourself very easy and pleasant
to work it. Part of the job is having people want to work with you so once
you do get work you must sell your personality too.
