What is the main reason for stretching after a workout?
Is it only for a quicker recovery time or does help your muscles grow too? |

It's been suggested in the past, that doing that may help with muscle growth, as the muscle fibres when broken down, become supposedly sort of kinked, and the stretching helps to straighten them out a bit.
I cannot vouch for the accuracy of this though, as it's been something bandied around for years. I haven't seen anything concrete to support it, though it does seem to have some kind of logic attatched to it.

- depends on goals
- if going for growth than stretching after each set is the way to go
if going for recovery than dynamic / active stretching the day after is best
- static stretching isn't great as it doesn't increase flexibility while you actually move which is when most injuries occur
- also static stretching is best used on muscles that are actually very tight...for example most females have excessive anterior tilt (bum points up and belly points down) meaning they have tight hip flexors and lengthen hams but you always see them stretched hams which are already too stretched making postural matters worse
- stretching also causes mico muscle tears (think of the pain you gwt while doing cable flies at the bottom but not as bad) whicgh is actually dmagaing the musclwe more so for actual recovery purposes after workouts it's also not great...6hras later though is alright in a semi warmed up state (light sweat) before bed
didn't think i knew that much about stretching.........
