Hi, I am looking for guidance in setting a realistic long-term goal. My goal is to loose about 15-20 pounds (seems to have been creeping up on me for the past 3 years, also in which time I have had two children). If I keep a clean diet, eating 6x a day and drinking a gallon of water; doing cardio for a min of 30 mins 5 days a week, and lift at least 4x a week can anyone offer an estimated amount of time for me to reach my goal. Sad to say but without a timeline I seem to get off track. I have been working out on and off for the past 5 years. Also should I be doing longer cardio sessions? What about maybe increasing them to 6x a week. Any input, ideas, or advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

Oh yea, I am currently 25.

Hi there,
I don't think increasing cardio to 6 times a week would be a solution. Are you currently losing weight? Typically one-two pounds a week is recommended. It's hard to say how long it would take you. Getting your calories and macronutrients just right makes a big difference.

For cardio, for some sessions I would recommend 45 minutes (maybe twice a week). Also, at least twice a week high intensity intervals might be beneficial.

What are you currently doing for weight training?

Let me know how else I can help.

Sarah

Sarah,

Thanks for your reply. I have just switched to a much healthier diet (I was a snacker, so I have cut that out completely) Agian, I also just got back into a fitness routine so I have only been consistent with it for the past two weeks. I have already lost 2 pounds. Thanks for your input.
