I have lost over 30lbs going from a size 16 to a size 10 in five months. I eat a low fat diet full of lean meats, fruits, veggies and water. I see major changes in my body with the exception of my arms. To my understanding there is no such thing as losing weight in one specific area. How can I make my arms appear more lean?? I'm working them 2x's a week with free weights and I do 30 minute cardio 5 days a week. Once my arms are more lean it will make a world of difference in my overall look. What would you suggest. Thanks Very Happy

Hi Truth, congrats on the weight loss, you must feel fantastic.
You've lost a lot pretty fast, is it fat or hanging skin you are having trouble with? It's true, you can't spot reduce, however, you can train that area to help things out. I've always had fat depoits on the under side of my triceps, and found the best exercise for me is push-ups, not girly ones on the knees, on the toes. And lots of variety in that exercise, such as spiders, t-stabs and more recently diamonds. Keep up with your healthy eating and exercise, everyone got a stubborn spot or two!
Are you still losing weight or have you reached your goal?

It appears to be fat and it is more concentrated in the tricep area. I can do push ups using the ball. I definitely have to work up to real push ups on the toes. That takes a great deal of strength that I don't have yet. lol. But I will make that a goal. Thanks for the encouragement!! I am excited. I would like to loose 10-15 more pounds by the end of the year.

Partly you just have to be patient. As you lose more fat you will lose some off of the arms. We all have areas that seem like the last to go.

While you can't simply get rid of that fat with exercises, push ups like Diane said are good. Tricep extensions (skull crushers are great) and dips are also wonderful for the triceps.

I wanted to come back and give you guys an update. I have took your advice about incorporating push ups, skull crushers and dips. And my oh my what a difference in my arms in just nearly three months. I started with push ups on my knees to build strength. Now I can do 10 push ups in a set and I can complete two sets. With the dips I use the machine that offers weight assistance. I started with 90lbs and now I am down to 60lbs. I'm getting stronger and the flags are melting away. I'm was so surprise to see how quickly they toned up. Thanks again!!!!!

Thank you for your postings, guys! I am inspired to increase my upper body strength. I am in a similar situation (sissy pushups only) although I still have 30 lbs to lose. I always find myself buying sleeveless shirts and think I look good in them until I see a picture of myself. Argh! I love to see other women with cut arms. I want to run up to them and ask them how did they did it, but I dont because I know the first step is to lose the excess weight. There is hope for me!
