Genetics is always a fuzzy area.
Think about it, if you were someone who played Football, (soccer), say in the 90's, at something like Premiership, or the division below, (now called Championship), does it necessarily figure the son could become Premiership quality themselves, or even play a lot lower down, like Northern Premier league, or Southern First division etc etc, for a lot lower money, and still have to work as well?
Perhaps, or maybe perhaps not. You could practise until the cows come home, and kick one in every ten Footballs where you meant to.
Sport is also governed to some extent by Brain function. What makes one guy a £50,000 a week player, another guy a £5,000 a week player, and a third guy a £500 a week player, is not necessarily just pure skill.
Some guys who play 5-6 divisions below Premiership, have almost as much grass roots skill as Premiership players, some guys at that level, can pass, tackle, shoot and head nearly as well, and the skill difference in basics, could be something like 10-15%, not 40-50%+ like in some other cases.
Where it then becomes a matter of difference, between the super rich, and the comfortablly well off, is things like flair, creativity, reading the game, having a better sportsmans Brain, that reacts quicker, thinks quicker, and helps you get a better mind muscle connection, with things like dribbling, accelleration from standing, and little slick tricks ot beat an opponent, a great piece of skill timed right, instead of being a well meant action, that resulted in nothing good for you or your team.
Same with many sports.
Look at Basketball. Why does a guy who might net something like 8, 3 pointers, and 15-20 additional 1 or 2 point baskets, in a lower division game, and be 6ft 6", play top level NBA, score about 4 times, and barely get picked.
Something else makes some of those top guys better than Mr lower league, 25 basket average, and some of those top guys could be 5-6" shorter, and still have that edge, a certain something Mr 25 average, can't achieve, master, or develop, even if he spends 10 hours a week trying.
Also genetics can skip a generation. You might find a grandaparent developed a Brain disease at the age of 70, but by the time you're 40+, neither parent would have it, but 30 years later when you're 70, you could.
So you might be someone who potentially had a very sporty parent, have very sporty children, and find that by 40, the best sporty thing you ever did, was run a 5k, or get a 50 break in Snooker.
You can improve genetic potential with hard application, and desire, but pushing athletic potential to it's limits, isn't the same as pushing the boundaries beyond a fixed point, which is not possible.
Once you peak, you peak, and there's no guarantees a relative who even does or did what you do, and does or did it well, could be overtaken, or matched skill or performance wise.
If you have achieved greater physical capability than your Father, then you have aleady expanded the envelope, so you will in time know where your peak is, if you are willing to find it, instead of potentially settling for 75-80%, of your full potential. |

Yep, I'm West European, and live on a large island made up of 3 countries.
Actually I'm British, but the other things are true |

| Can do. Some Bar work has a habit of making some Muscles lazy, as one side of the body, can develop more reliance on the other side. |
