|

| recently i have been experiencing a sharp back pain in my right trap, which i believe is due to a combination of slightly bad posture and me using my back when lifting with an EZ bar to do a bicep curl (i really think this is why). so my question is, how long should i lay off the lifting and cardio? i figure a week but im not that experienced in that catagory, any suggestions? |

i would say it's a nerve impingement but hard to tell w/out seeing you or anything...do these test and note where the pain starts and finishes..do not use weight but ensure perfect full range of motion:
1 – external rotation with arm adducted
2 – external rotation with arm abducted
go here for both of these:

3 – lateral arm raises (normal)
4 – place hand behind back as in being arrested and pull back and away from you with elbow stationary (hope you can understand this , couldn't find a picture)
do these and get back to me |

Excellent info in the previous post. I recommend that you rest until the pain is gone and then start back easy. For doing curls you could think about standing with your back against something, and focus on not letting your back move. Or, you could do different bicep exercises such as incline bench curls or preacher curls.
