Hi Everyone
I have been jogging on the tread mill for about a month now 5days a week, when I'm jogging the muscle down the front of my leg (not my thigh muscle) I think it is tibialis gets very sore sometimes to the point when I need to stop jogging/running. Is this a stretching problem (not enough prior to my workout) or is this from the wrong shoes / to much weight. I'm way over at 310lbs my ideal wieght is 220-225 I do stretch out for about 5 minutes prior to my workout. Any comments / advice would be very welcome.
Thanks |

| sounds like tibialis...ease up on running cutting to 1 - 2/week...do some biking, rowing etc but that being said i'd rather you do 3 x wt and 2 x cardio workouts a week |

The cause is most likely your running form. What you are experiencing is known as shin splints. Shin splints are most often caused by poor running form. As you step forward does your foot strike on your heel? In most people it naturally does because they tense up the ankle joint. This puts a lot of pressure on the tibialis, and also can lead to damage to the knees and ankles long term. And it also means that you are likely stepping out of your center of gravity, making jogging more difficult that it needs to be.
When you are jogging you should keep your ankle joint relaxed and land softly on the midfoot. It's hard to get used to, but practice walking around with your ankle joint relaxed as you step. This will most likely eliminate the shin splints and be a lot better on your joints.
SOme jogging is excellent to develop a strong heart and lungs and I don't think you need to cut back unless you prefer to. If what I have described doesn't make sense let me know and I'll try to help you out more. |
