I was shocked but remained calm. I let him speak...perhaps I shouldn't have. I'm not going to train with him again (he gave me his #; no he is not gay) that's for sure. But whatever.

In general, I like my gym (YMCA). It's very friendly, people smile and say hi, help you if you ask for it. My other gym, a cavernous suburban chain gym, wasn't friendly.

LOL, ya dude spot me but I'm married, WTF? There is no connection there.

No, he wasn't trying to impress me, he was trying to "help me" by actually lifting the bar so I didn't have to push myself to make the lift.
If I didn't want to push myself, I wouldn't need a spot. He threw off my game big time.
Anyways, I got my coach to spot me after that. I pushed out 2 reps at 110 and was struggling big time on the second to keep my ass on the bench, but he was not going to lift that bar unless I dropped it on my throat. That's a spot.

i barely raise the hands up when i spot, you need to lose control of the wt sometimes so you now how to react....you'll also only do it once

Don't use Spotters. I have a mind muscle connection, (it does exist), and you know what it is when you need it, or you've used it before.

About 2 or 3 years ago, when I started getting into the groove of working out/bodybuilding; I used to go to a small gym near my home around the block. There were a lot of middle aged men there everyday, and I could tell right off the bat that they were all pretty rude, and obnoxious; as if they owned the freakin' gym.

So anyways, this indian guy..probably in his 30s or 40s or so comes up to me while I'm doing some seated dumbbell side raises. He starts to spot me for no reason, and then says that I have to lift heavier weights. So..fine alright I'll consider it I said. Next thing you know he tickles my armpit while I continue that exercise. I didn't want to be a jackass and say " yo wtf? " and shove and push, so I played along and laughed. Next thing you know he's like "where's your KUNG FU?!" and starts chopping the air with his hands. I found it totally freaking disrespectful, and sort of racist, but I let it go.

Embarassed Some people have no sense of cultural propriety. I guess you shouldn't have laughed, but as I said in the beg. of this thread, I'm too nice and too embarrassed to begin a conflict where the guy was probably sincere in trying to help me, he just didn't go about it the right way.

For spotting on bench at least I keep my hands a little above the neck and people are always like "WTF?!?" but I leave them there to keep it from dropping on the neck because that it is a hell of a lot more dangerous to drop 260lbs on your neck then on your chest.

I've work out at home since I started, reaching my 1RM on bench Press and did I died ? lol sometimes I struggle but nothing bad happened. Seriously someones who DROPS the bar don't know his limit or have a whatashit grip.

But true the neck is WAY more fragile.

I dropped a Bar twice, but both for frustrating reasons, not stuipd ones.

First time, I was benching on bench, with an Olympic Bar, and as I was trying to put the Bar back, I kept catching the front of the little metal lips, that the Bar rested on, (a few times), then my Arms gave out.

Normally that process would go well, but that one day it just didn't seem to happen, like one of those "do something 99 times, but the 100th one goes wrong" scenarios.

Second time, I was trying to put the Bar back, and it kept skidding on my Palms, with a bit of Sweat, and wouldn't roll off my hands cleanly, then my Arms gave way. Palms weren't really sweaty at the start, but a little bit of Sweat built up during the set, so it wasn't something I could have combatted before the lift.

Neither occasion was I hurt, thankfully, but I never benched that way again. I switched to benching on Smith for safety reasons, but months later I started having doubts about the possible impact on the Shoulder area, so I switched to DB's.
