Best time to take Flaxseed Oil?

Postby carllecat » Sat Jun 06, 2009 8:34 pm

What is the best time during the day tot ake flaxseed oil?
I've read that the worst thing you can do is to take it post workout.

I also read with breakfast or before going to bed would be the best options. Can you guys recommend a dose as well?

Thanks,

Hey Swanso - I put flax seed oil in my shakes at 5:00 AM 1/2 hour before working out. Guess breaking 2 out of 3 is pretty bad - why isn't it good at those times?

you want thte goodness of the fats to go towards regenerating the body etc (nails, hair, anti inflammatory) so having at those times won;t do that, you'll use them for exercise recovery/energy

Flaxseed Oil has the propensity to go rancid, and doesn't stay very stable when cooking.

The best options for Flax would either be seeds and grinder, or powdered.

Smart Balance peanut butter actually has a good portion of Flax oil in it. I usually eat a peanut butter sandwich for lunch using the stuff. It doesn't taste the greatest, but I'm not doing this for enjoyment :P

Since peanut butter is not refrigerated I wonder how the flax seed oil doesn't go rancid ?

I have my flax seed oil in the refrigerator Boss Man - how long should it last? It's a pretty big bottle.....

That's fine. I should have said propensity to go rancid in some circumstances.

Fact is any fats can go rancid. Even Oxidised Cholesterol is Cholesterol that's basically gone rancid so I believe.

You should be fine keeping yours in the fridge. Obviously it might have a consume by date, so exceeding that would be your only concern I think.

For those who are just generally trying to be more active and manage diet, is there any benefit of flaxseed oil? I'm curious what you all take it for ;)

Flaxseed Oil is a source of Alpha Linolenic Acid, an Omega 3, which converts in part, to EPA and DHA the Fish fats.

It's useful for things like Brain function, memory, Cholesterol control, hair quality etc etc.

Flax also contains Lignans, or Phyto-Oestrogens, which are genetically similar to Oestrogen and bind to receptors, helping to reduce the effects of excess Oestrogen, like Breast Cancer risk, Gynocomastia and Blood Clot risk for example.

Can't be 100% certain if the Lignans are in the Oil, but I would have thought so.
