Ok ladies... bought some 100% whey protein powder.. now??

Postby MarielS76 » Fri Jul 10, 2009 10:39 am

So this is my prep week.. I am getting ready to jump in full force on Monday... I have already gotten some great menu suggestions and I tried to read up on protein powder a bit but wow can you say info overload, so this might not be the best one out there, but I gotta start somewhere....
sooooo........

I bought some EAS 100% Whey Protein Chocolate flavor.. now my question..

I don't plan to use it to replace any meals

I plan to use it for recovery after a workout

now..

Are there any other DO's and Don'ts that I need to be aware of?

I read something about not adding flaxseed oil because of absorbion..

I want to make this as an effective process as possible so I don't want to screw it up..hehe

Thanks!!

Just mix it with water and away you go.

If it's Carb free, than add either Crushed Oats, Honey or both, I would reccomend, and if it's a tatse isues try stuff like Vanilla Essence, ground Ginger, ground Nutmeg or Cinnamon as flavour enhancers.

use water to mix it.

I mixed mine in oatmeal once and it sucked ...hard!

some people love it, it ruined my oatmeal for me

after I got my diet in better shape and my work out intesity increased I used two scoops on weight day and one on GPP day.

some days if I'm interrupted while working out i drink half mid work out but want at least half left for after workout.

these are just my observations and methods. not a doctor not a professional not a dietitian, just a user getting results with the OM

it's 3 carbs/ 23 protein per scoop -- would you add Crushed Oats or Honey to that? Anything to be weary of with the Honey??

are you allergic to honey?

I eat one tablespoon of honey every day. sometimes before work out sometimes right after.

and love it.

I'm losing 2 pounds a week for last 11 weeks

on no I am not, but I know there is natural honey, organic honey and then honey full of fake sugar, so was just curious.

and you classify it as a carb - right?

I eat honey from a bees natural and stay away from anything faked with added sugar.

Serving Size 1 tbsp
Amount Per Serving
Calories 64
% Daily Value*
Total Carbohydrates 17.0g 6%
Sugars 16.0g

* Based on a 2000 calorie diet

carb i'd say, but there are scientists onboard here ready to parse every molecule, so wait for further details

on edit: I eat the honey rather than prescribed sugary cereal as I'm a weak human with human frailties and I'd start telling myself that just one more bowl of capt crunch will be ok since I worked out so fookun hard.

honey is my carbs and a diversion from crap cereals

lol... doesn't seem like a bad thing.. I am not a fan of cereal to begin with.. I am a fan of the drive thru...lol

..but honestly just the not eating fast food 3 meals a day and the soda cut out has made such a difference this week in how I feel that I know I can curb those cravings... I am sure I will develop some other quirk

thanks again for your advice.. I like it!

Yes, Honey is a Carb source, it's actually a simple Sugar.

goal calories according to the site is 1816 and Carbohydrate Goal: 227 grams
Protein Goal: 136 grams
Fat Goal: 40 grams

I had oatmeal and a large coke

yogurt with almond slices

boca burger patty and a turkey sandwich with cheese

Not all simple Sugars are bad.

Yes for people like Diabetics they need monitoring like any Carbs, as simple get into the bloodstream at a rate of 30 calories per minute, complex are 2 per minute, but simple Carbs can be limied.

Simple Carbs get a bad rep because of things like Sucrose, (Table Sugar), as it is added to a lot of fattening foods like Chocolates, Candies, Cakes etc etc, plus they do contribute to Fat gains, but Simple can still be used for energy, and when you eat any, some of it is, even the stuff in Fruit, though more would get used for energy depending on when you eat it.

So actually having some Honey now and again, is not a bad thing, so don't worry about it.

Is it bad to mix the whey protein with milk? I don't really like the taste with just plain water... so for the past three days I mixed it with 2% milk.

If you have it right or before workout, just with water because of quick absorption which you need.

but for example at night, I tend to have half a scoop mixed with water and about 100ml of milk, and its fine. I often take it and 1 or 2 before I sleep.

I hated the water thing, but I got used to it eventually.

I usually drink the wrey protein with milk right after my workout (It takes 15min to get from my gym to my place). Before using milk I did try the water. It just so happen that one day I tried it with 2% milk and found it tasted a lot better. I will go ahead and revert back to drinking it with water. Thanks for replying.

Mixing Milk with Whey means you get more calories, Casein, more viscocity and also more Enzyme production to digest the Lactose. This slows it down after workouts.

If you have taste issue,s try mixing a little Honey or some ground ginger, ground Nutmeg, Vanilla Essence or Cinnamon in it, to see if that imrproves the taste when you mix with water.
