I really don't agree that there is "no point".
I usually always have a shake for my last meal of the day. It's convenient, low cal and helps to achieve my protein macro for the day. An extra shake a day will not hurt you, just be sure it's a low carb protien with casien, not a PW formula with a simple carb source added.
I know a few people who take a shake in the morning and the evening, when pressed for time. It's better than eating on the go and possibly filling up on junk. And like I mentioned, if you are trying to eat 1 gram per pound of body weight in protien, a shake can be tastier than another freaking chicken breast or can of tuna.

A Casein at night has been successful for some, to protect muscle mass.
Also if you have a shake for Breakfast, at least have half a scoop, and try to have the rest of the Breakast with solid food. |

Yes, casein is found in milk. It comes as a protein supplement as well, just like whey and soy.
There's nothing wrong with using a protein shake on an off day if you choose. Some people prefer to have real food, such as meat for their protein source. But having a protein shake on an off day will not harm you. |

Milk is 30% Whey, the rest is Casein.
Casein is pretty Carb free, and being a slow digesting protein source, (8 calories per gram not 4), it is a more preferencial choice for people, who want late night muscle protection, as Whey will only suffice for 3 hours, Casein about 6, which means only 2 hours Catabolism in every 8 hours of sleep.
Whey is a good choice for late night, and unless someone has one with Carbs in, and has a slight issue sleeping with digesting Carbs, (which some do), there's no real problem.
The only slight issue some might get is with Casein, is a bit of bloating. That's not terribly common though. When I used to use it, I felt something mild about twice. |
