Nothing. I use Water, and Food Carbs.

Energy drinks are just often full of Simple Carbs and Caffeine. Caffeine Vasoconstricts Bloodvessels, so for Blood pumping during workouts, it's counteractive.

Also the Xanthines can be converted to Uric Acid, by something called Xanthine Hydrogenase, and unless the body uses water to get rid of UC, long term UC creation, can lead to things like Gout, (buildup of UC around the joints).

Bearing in mind UC can be created by the conversion of Nitrogen in Saturate Fats and Proteins.

So basically don't give your Kidneys, and bloodstream, more UC than needs be.

Plus the Caffeine stimulation on the Heart when working out, I think wouldn't be great. Mostly wouldn't be an issue I suspect, save for those with a Heart problem, or people who have medical advise to avoid Caffeine consumption.

As for Guarana, it is a Herb, but also has Caffeine, Guarana being a typical ingredient in many Energy Drinks.

Just stay hydrated throughout, and if needs be, train close to meal like 30-60 minutes after.

Yes true the most underated supplement for workout energy is water.

Keep hydrated and you'll see the difference.

I cannot function without a cup of coffee first thing in the morning. It gives me all the energy I need.

Trust me, if you cut it completely, you'd get withdrawal symptoms for a few days but that's it. You could iive without it and will have done before, that is unless you were bottlefed on Kenco, and drank it all your life Wink.

Unless you drank decaff, as then you'd cut the Bloodvessel constriction, Heart stimulation, Xanthine conversion etc etc, but you wouldn't completely get rid of Caffeine, as Caffeine in Decaff is about 1/5 the amount, of a cup of strong regular.

I love the stuff, and truly believe that if you drink it in moderation, like anything else, no harm done.

hum I think there's a little mistake there. There are many studies that claim that calcium may disturb magnesium absorption, so you better space calcium from the rest. Just my 2 cents tough.

I will never, ever give up my coffee. That is one of my major weaknesses. I love it too much. I do limit myself to 1-2 cups in the morning only.

I take a cal/mag supp as well.

Magnesium assists with calcium uptake. They should be taken in a 2:1 ratio and the calcium should not be carbonate.

I did not say I took them all at the same time. Wink
Different opinions on coffee. I drink it in the morning and love it. Black and believe there are just as many positives as negatives when it comes to caffeine/coffee.

Totally agree, however we do put things in our body that we can do without. It is a matter of how extreme/disciplined you want to be. I am moderate. I still want to enjoy life and enjoy some of the food/drink pleasures. Some people drink alcohol and we can do without that too. Some eat chocolate and so on. It is just a matter of choice. I am pretty disciplined but have a few bad habits. Evil or Very Mad
By the way swanso5 I took your advice and have added sprinting to my workout. For the last 3 days. I find that I kind of like it. Laughing and after sprinting and going back to walking " I do it as part of my walk" I find the walking is easier after exerting myself. I am starting with about 3 sprints. Hold it for about 2 1/2 minutes at 6.5-6.7 mph.
Thank you for the advice. I appreciate it. I am in the process of creating a web page on health, fitness and computers. My life basically Rolling Eyes and am going to add a section on the benefits of sprinting and Whey protein.
