I saw an info-mercial selling an abdominal workout machine of some sort.
They claimed it would help you trim fat and 'reduce those love handles'
So I'm wondering-- if you burn calories while working muscles in that specific area, does that really do any better in terms of losing the fat
than burning the fat by jogging or basketball or whatever...
Sorry if this seems like a stupid question.
thanks.. |

An all over programme of weights and / or Cardio, is more beneficial for Fat reductions, than anything sold on TV.
I've seen things like you describe before. There used to be one in Britain, I think called the Abs Slide. You were on your Hands and Knees, holding something that look like a giant Lint Roller, with a semi-circular plastic cover on top, and you slid backwards and forwards.
Seemed like a cheap, wanky version of an Abs Roller, and looked like it was designed for woman, whos sole purpose in life, is to get on the floor doggy style, and spend 5 days a week, ruining their Scapulae, and Rotator Cuffs.
Most of those things sold on TV, are complete trash, they are poor substitutes for any "real" exercise, and are a complete waste of money, a bit like those Abs Belts, that supposedly stimulate 6-pac development through electrical impulses.
I'm getting a horrible vision, of someone with 3rd degree Abdominal burns, and corrective surgery scars
Funny how most of those adverts, don't advertise practial things, like Swiss balls, Medicine Balls, Rubber Bands, Aerobic Steps etc etc. |

| i also hjave an ab lounge, also saw some great results but i think they were mostly due to the loss of bf during that time... the problem with it is that once you can do the hardest variation its basically useless... |

What some people think is, if they lose bf and see Abs, they have a 6-pac.
Abs are already there, so getting low bf%, will show them, but without good Abdominal quality, you still might get potential posture problems when you're old.
So a person should ask themselves this.
1. visable weak Abs?
2. Hidden strong Abs?
Then see if they could still talk up a pansy ass Ab gizmo, off the TV, after considering points 1 and 2 |

I'm sure there are some things on TV but anything can be made to sound like a great buy.Good sales people could sell bronzed dog turds.
There is no machine for abs that will make ab fat go away, and there is no thigh machine that will make thigh fat go away. It's unfortunatel that these ads mislead people like that and help perpetuate common misonceptions.
Your question isn't stupid at all. People will get good abs by shedding the fat that is covering them, which is best done through good nutrition and exercise.
Hope that helps. |

exercise meaning, any kind of work out right? jumping jacks, body weight squats, bridges, crunches, lunges, wall sits, etc... right?
cuz my main concern is also to lose bf, not so much in gaining muscle. i heard that cardio workouts burn fat overall instead of just targets. and basing on my sched, i dont have the time to really go to the gym and work there, nor go outside and run. so i was hoping that i can set up and workout that i can do at home for lets say, 30-40 mins/day, and still be as effective.
any suggestions?
thanks |

Sorry I just saw your question addressed to me. Yes, any exercise. ALL exercise helps you burn fat all over. NO exercise helps you target fat loss. Our bodies just don't work that way. There are certainly plenty of ways you can workout at home for half an hour a few times a week and lose fat. You can do some circuits like Swanso suggested, or what I call active recovery. That is doing a strength exercise, then doing something cardio vascular such as jumping jacks, marching or jogging in place, side steps or hops, etc. for a minute, then doing another strength exercise, and so on. |

| You are if you're not selling them on E-bay. You know some dufus will buy them. It's almost as likely as America having another George Bush type leader, by the year 2107. |
