As the subject indicates, what alternatives to push ups do you guys recommend that can actually help me get to the point where I can at least start doing push ups.

Yeah yeah yeah, i'll admit it I can't do push ups... not yet anyways.....

how many can you do?

this has worked with my clients before

say you can do 3 or 4 proper push ups from toes

do this twice a week

1st exercise of the session do push ups 5 x 2, 30secs rest between sets
last exercise do the same

each successive session take one set from the 2nd part and add it to the 1st part so then you do

1st exercise do push ups 6 x 2, 30secs rest
last exercise do 4 x 2, 30secs rest

after 5 workouts you'll be up to 10 x 2 all in a row with 30secs rest

from there, re test your push up max and go again but with diffrent reps per set

the key is to use a rep number that is 1 or 2 under your max rep total...so if you can do 5 than do sets of 3...if you can do 3 do sets of 1 etc

if you can't even do 1 (elbows to at least 90 degrees constitutes a proper rep) than you'll need to do them from an elevated surface like a table than a chair than a step than the floor (following the same scheme as above) so you increase the % of your bodyweight that needs to be lifted

make sense??
