Hello All,

So, just as an update (altho I'm a new face around here), I started on June 25th with a strict diet and exercise/cardio program. I do full body wo 3x a week with HIIT 3x a week, on alternating days (with Sundays as my day off). I upped my calorie intake the first week to 1700 and now I'm on ~2000 (I regularly ate 1 meal a day for a while). After about 1 1/2 weeks (12 days) I've lost 5 pounds, and I feel more energetic and I think I feel stronger.

Anyways, I'm in it for the long run. I'm taking whey protein powder in the mornings, and after workouts. I also take fish oil capsules daily along with a multivitamin. I was looking to maybe add Glutamine to my shakes, and maybe some BCAA supplement.

Is this neccessary?

Would I be able to mix them together (Whey Protein & Glutamine & possibly BCAA)?

Glutamine yes, potentially, not BCAA. BCAA would be better instead of PP or not at all.

Besides some Protein powdrs have extra BCAA's in then, and they should list if the amounts are purposely increased, even if the exact increases are not stated, the fact they are increased should be stated, if the company is showing good business savvy.

if you're in it for the long run then you don't need supp's...you don;t really need either but i'd go BCAA's over glutamine anyday if someone had a gun to my head

So what if there wasn't a gun to my head lol...

I thought Glutamine was the way to go. Damn, these supps are so confusing. I might just stick with the protein for now, then after I lose the weight, and I'm ready to bulk up, I'll add some supps. I such prob do some more research.

If I take BCAA, do I take it before the workout? Then take the whey protein right after my workout?

Gluitamine is fine. Glutamine helps synthesise Protein, but some Protein powders, have boosted BCAA and Glutamine.

If you used BCAA you could use Glutamine as well. If you use a PP then maybe Glutamine at night, but no need with the PP after training.

If you have a LOAD of money to spend then :

Before Workout : 5g Glutamine, 10g BCAA
During Workout : 10g BCAA
Post-Workout : Whey with malto/dex(the equivalent of 25g proteins not more), 5g Glutamine, 10g BCAA

Before bed 5 g Glutamine

BUT remember, supplement won't ever do miracle. Don't except result over night. And the plan above, is what I currently do and it is only because I have some friendly friends who can make me a ridiculously low price on supplements.

But before buying BCAA I would think more about ZMA ...

Ok. Sounds good. Thanks guys. I'll hold off with the supps for now. Once I get my diet down packed (its been changing little by little these past 2 weeks), I'll start adding in the appropriate supps.

Why BCAA during workouts?

After yes, before possibly, but during? I'm not convinced personally.

Also Maltodextrin will increase Bloodsugar and Muscle Glycogen levels. Dextrose, (GLucose), will only increase Bloodsugar as it's simple, whereas Maltodextrin is derived from Corn Starch, and is complex.

Unless you're implying using both at once, then for me, Maltodextrin, would win over Dextrose in a striaght one on one.
