this shape ---> )(
I want an hourglass figure. I'm petite and pretty narrow (straight up and down) and I would like to try to develop some bigger, curvy, wider hips. Are their any exercises that I can do to make my hips wider and give me the )( shape. Thanks!! |

I already have a very shapely derriere, from the back, but from the front, I am straight up and down and very narrow like this-----> II .
I would like to get some curvy action going on. To make I'm petite, only 5"2, 124 pds (mainly muscle), 34-27-39. I weight train about 4-5 days out of the week and take whey protien. I've tried wearing a waist cincher to pull my waist in more, hoping that would accentuate my lack of hips, but it didn't work. I've tried doing the side plank and side bends with 10-15lb weights, but nada. Any other suggestions (other than eating KFC)?? Thanks in advance. |

LOL! Nice Swanso! Ice cream, kfc and pasta would definitely create wider hips. You crack me up!
Cindy... I honestly don't think you can change your body shape. From you measurements it sounds like you already have a nice figure. I realize that this probably isn't what you want to hear but maybe just learn to work with and be thankful for what you have. To change your bone structure is (as I understand it) pretty much impossible. :)
Good luck! |

Stop the side bends and braces if you want to keep the waist thinner! those will build the muscle thicker and do the opposite of what you want.
Honestly, deadlifts, squats, pull-ups, inverted rows, lunges, push-ups, bench press, bent rows, these will help shape your body around your core and strengthen your core as well without thickening it.
Cheers |

Cassie (how hot is she??) is right..you can't change your body structure...your hips are that shep forever unless you want to cover them with fat which would be really silly
side bends will make your waist wider making your hips look smaller...give them away right now
what's wrong with the kfc option??? i love the stuff.... |

Well, you are what you are. I am the same way, curvy from the back but straight as a board in the front. You can't really change that but you can work on the illusion of a smaller waist by building your upper back and shoulders. You want to achieve the "X Factor", here's a link:

Oh, and if you're going to corset, LOL, that's a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week torture chamber. I'd personally stick with specific muscle targeting. |

I will definitely try that one, but not until I have followed the one recommended by Swanso, Boss and Christopheel for a while.
Vamp, are you thinking of trying that one? I'm not sure how good an hourglass figure would look for you. |

Good plan, this is more of a targeted approach that will be appropriate after you gain some more strength and mass and overall conditioning.
As for that trainer you asked about OL, never ask a general fitness PT about specialization. Chances are, they have no experience or knowledge and ignorance breeds fear. Fear creates negativity.
You need to look for a gym that specializes in strength, not a fitness center where people go to try and stave off an early death from inactivity. |

lol Katie,
I liked the structure and simplicity of the workout, so often body builders go into elaborate programs with specialization it was great to see one that is more fundamental and user friendly.
I bet the workout would be great for any guy if you add in some lower back and side work

Thanks, Diana. You're right. I shouldn't let her get to me. I felt very discouraged after our conversation.
Vamp, it still is a good workout. When I'm ready to try it, I'll let you know. We can be workout buddies! |
