Just a little background about me...

Butterfly 55-60 dumbbells
Curl 25-30 dumbbells
etc.

So, I'm considering buying some lifting gloves. Besides the obvious hand callus issue, is there anything else that gloves are good for/help with? Should I even be considering getting them? Thanks.

Yes I agree, especially about the grip. You can get some with a smooth palm side, or I believe some with a bobbled palm side too.

The grip benefit means, not potentially having trouble if your palms get sweaty mid set. I've occasionally had that from time to time, and you end up needing a lot of finger strength and tension, to stabilise the weights on the last 2-3 reps, and place them on the floor.

Though I am not naturally prone to excess sweating. So that problem happens now and again, in high temperatures, and with certain exercises.

I personally don't use Gloves, but if you feel you need them, go with the idea. I don't forsee they will be anything other serving to be of some assistance physically.

Do they actually prevent calluses? I had stopped lifting for a while (~1 year) and started up again recently. Since then, I've been getting some crazy calluses.

they don't completely solve the callus problem but they kind of help... now i have bigger calluses near the phalanges and not the palm

my calluses actually hurt occasionally when i lift without gloves, ive come to depend on my gloves, plus they make me feel like a hardass. i definately would recommend them because like someone else said, sweaty hands could also make an unnecessary issue as well as the whole callus thing
