Just started to get a home gym sorted out
To figure out what equipment I need I need to know the essential exercises to be doing (obviously there are a fair number to choose from for each muscle / group but If I can get 2 or 3 for each i hope thats enough )
Bought a Marcy MWM1600 multigym
http://www.kaleidoscope.co.uk/web/main/ProductDisplay.asp?An=0&N=0&Au=P_MasterItem&Nu=P_MasterItem&A=13W567_&cm_mmc=SEM-_-Froogle-_-Home%20&%20Living/Fitness/Multi%20Gyms-_-13W567&colour=&catno=13W567&suffix=WK4&size=&quantity=1
Which i picked up for £50 (a steal) Its good for a few upper body exercises but don't find it great for much else.
What else do I need to cover all the arm, chest, back, leg, ab exercises needed to really build myself up evenly considering I only have about 2 square meters of space left and that will need to be cleared after I'm done each day
I assume some obvious basics are a mat (cheap and versatile) a weight bench / barbel and some dumbells
with the marcy home gym, mat, weight bench, barbel, dumbells should I be able to cover everything I need to ?
Have read up on the best number of sets/reps to be doing, to add weight n cut the reps as I find it no longer burns. I just need to know the exercises I need to be doing to cover each muscle group / muscle so I can really get into it.

These are the basics.
1 x long bar
2 x small hand held bars
4 x 1kg, (2.2lb), discs or 1.25kg **
4 x 2kg, (4.4lb), discs or 2.5kg **
4 x 5kg, (11lb), discs
2 x 10kg, (22lb), discs
1 x Squat Rack
1 x Bench, (inclined if possible)
1 x Swiss Ball
Other peripheral equipment, bands and / or mat
You shouldn't need anything else for the time being.
** means dependant on what kind of stuff you buy or what a shop sells. Some may sell 1kg and 2kg small discs, some may sell 1.25 and 2,5kg small discs. Depends on the manufacturer. |

- yeah there good space takers those things, not real useful...i bought one similar years ago but only have the cable parts set up now with pressing handles and the seat taken off
- you should invest in a squat or power rack of sorts, a bb and lots of wts (heavy and light ones) although you won;t be able clear it away...if i was you i'd leave out the multi station, get the power rack which would take it's place...your becn will sit in the rack so you won't need a lot of space that the rack doesn't take up
- i'd get some therabands of different tensions which can usefull
- train movement not muscle mate too with these:
hip dominant movement (deadlifts, long stride lunges)
quad dominant movement (squats)
bench press variation
rowing variation
shoulder press variation
chin up variation
core movement
there's plenty to choose from but it depends on what else you get equipment wise and what space issues you'll have |
