at least 8 hours of sleep is needed, remember the muscles grow and develop when your asleep, not at the gym.

Proper rest is probably one of the most overlooked aspects of building mucsle. I saw a t-shirt somewhere at sometime or another that put it succinctly: Lift. Eat. Rest. Repeat.

The three tenats of building muscle are proper training, proper nutrition, and proper rest. The lifting tears the muscles down, nutrition fuels the workout and provides the tools to repair the muscles and make them bigger, and during rest is when the tools are put to use to build the muscle bigger.

You need to get 7 to 8 hours per night, with 8 being optimal.

There is a theory from some quaters of society, that 8 is too much, and you only need about 4.

Something about too mcuh slep agining you more, because you're not keeping your bodies phsyical and mental process, activated enough.

I think this is just at the moment, a medical theory, being given mild acceptance, rather than being laughed at like people who still think the World is flat.

Although interstingly Growth Hormone releases during sleep only occur for 2 hours, this could promote the theory, that having what some might call a power nap, for abotu 30 mintues, withing say 2-3 hours of training, might have some anabolic benefit.

I say, whilst this theory of mine sounds logical, I can't say it works.

Another theory I've had based on the 2 hours GH release principle, is that waking up 2-3 times during the night, wilst being categorised as a disrupted sleep pattern, and affecting things like Circadian Rythms, etc etc, could conceivably be more anabolic, as falling asleep again, could trigger another release of GH, that 7-8 hours straight won't.

Something to consider for people who like getting up at 4AM, and eating a Can of Tuna. Errch.

Though again a theory of mine, I can't prove, it just makes sense to me.
