Well here they are. Approximately 8 months of hard core training. Although I was not in terrible shape to begin with. I needed some help because my new endeavor was to enter my first triathlon at age 39. As a wife & mother of 2 I just could not see approching age 40 and not having a good fitness routine in place. I needed to set a goal. So I made up my mind to just do it. I started off on my own and saw some results but not enough to get me where I really wanted to be, so I got in touch with a personal trainer from this site and she is amazing! She set me up with a great diet and exercise plan that really did great things for me. I never thought that eating more often would create such great results but it really did. I feel 150% better than I have in years and am in better shape now approaching 40 than I ever was in my 20's.
My triathlon came and went and I was very proud of my achievement. I swam 500 meters which kicked my butt! Cycled 12.43 miles and ran a 5K. With 24 other woman plus me in my age group I ended up coming into 6th place with a finishing time of 1:26:40. For my first tri, I was very happy with the end result. Kudos to Sarah from this site, she is one heck of a trainer and an inspiration helping me achieve, attain, and reach my goal. I have made a firm committment to myself and my family that I will set a good example for them to stay fit and be healthy.

Man that's a hard stare in the last pic. Kind of like a don't screw with me face .
Seriously though, you ARE a credit to your family, and your children will learn a lot from your positive achievement, and your rolemodel abilities, and from the remainder of the love you gave yourself. That's obviously good love, and they're very lucky to have a Mother with your kind of love to give.
I have come across people of different ages like you, that make that change, and make it happen, and it makes me happy for them and you.
I agree about Sarah. Sarah has been a valuable member of this site for a long time, and personally she is someone, who would never get less than a full endorsement from me, as I believe in her abilities and people skills, even if I've never felt the need to call upon them.
You must remember though, good advice needs 100% commitment to get 100% result, or that advice means next to nothing. It's knowing what to do that starts it all, but implementation of deeds, and developing a symbiotic relationship with mind, body and emotions, that finishes the process, and that's where you came in, and gave your all, and you deserve your end result.
WELL DONE. You are a 39 year old human success story, and the knock-on beneits for your childrdn, will stay with them as adults, I'm 99.9% sure of that, so you should be very, very proud of your achievements, and you deserve to feel a bit special, because you definitely did something a bit special.
You're a pretty amazing woman, and I'll always be happy to share this board with inspirational people like you.
Thanks for sharing, you made me smile inside, and I hope you continue to go further and achieve more. You CAN do it and you deserve it, and all the happiness and rewards such success brings.
Chin up and keep going yeah.

Thanks Boss Man! I appreciate your kind words. It is amazing that once you really stay committed to a goal and reach it, it's all worth the hard work you did to get there. All too often people get hooked on promises and pills that make them believe in overnight success. They are all empty promises. Two reasons I made a firm devotion to taking care of myself were my children. My mother is a very ill person, she never felt well when I was growing up as a child and to this day has numerous medical problems that honestly could have been avoided had she taken care of herself. I did not want to be like her as an adult. Although I love my mother dearly, I wanted to be a mom who could enjoy her children and grandchildren. Be active with them and set an example that physical activity is so important. With childhood obesity on the rise at such at astounding rate, I knew I had to set a good example. Plus, my son is diabetic and insulin dependent, so in order to control his disease, exercise is key along with a good, clean healthy diet. I provide my children with healthy choices at home and yes on occaison, have treats in moderation.
By the way that last picture was my hard core "I just got my A$%# kicked by my swim"! I knew I had to kick it up a notch cause I lost so much time. The best feeling ever was when I approaching the finish line at the end of my run and I blew past an 18 year old...eat my dirt sister. You just got beat by a woman more the twice your age. Can you tell I am a little competitive? I'm kidding, I give everyone credit who at least go out and try. I have to admit, it did make me feel a tiny bit triumphant though |
