Re: Body Weight Training - please weigh in!

TRX is a great exercise system, it is also incredibly easy to moderate the resistance by simply changing the angle you perform the exercises at. I have large and small clients train on this equipment all the time. Find the right angle for you, and stick with moves you can currently do and leave more...

Re: lose fat

Since spot reducing is impossible the key is losing fat in general. In addition to your cardio workouts I would add twice weekly full body weight training circuits. They don't have to be heavy, but you should work toward increasing the intensity. 20-30 max.

Re: Haven't lost weight in 2 weeks - Have I hit a plateau??

I have to agree with Dustin about adding resistance training. One big reason people hit plateaus is sameness. You need to shake up your exercise to force adaptive change. Try adding more speed and interval work into shorter sessions. Use the time savings to add resistance training twice a week (full...

Re: Drinks beside water to lose fat?

Unless you are moderating your diet all the caffeinated drinks in the world won't do anything to help you lose fat. There are no lotions, potions or legal pills for that matter either. As you already know it's about diet and exercise, calories in versus calories out. Best, Personal Trainer Los Angel...

Re: [HELP] Cardio Training for Football - OFFSEASON

Day 1 try 1/4 mile sprints followed by 1/4 walk intervals. Start with a comfortable amount and add i interval per week. Day two warm up thoroughly and do 200 meter sprints at 3/4 speed mixed with 1/4 walk/jog. Aim for 10. Focus on increasing your speed rather than adding extra intervals. Day three d...

Re: Going nuts with manboobs - Carbs, fats

I gotta agree with Vamp here. High intensity training (20-30) minutes max of push-ups, pull-ups, dips, squats, steps, and sprints are ideal. If you have a gym membership add dead lifts, squat presses, and cleans. As per diet tortillas and rice are both starches so they tend to make you fat as do pot...

Re: Combining Pushups and Chinups

You got some great advice here already. Just wanted to add make sure you vary your workouts often to avoid plateaus. You can still do push-ups just position your hands differently or use a Bosu ball etc. to increase the variety of push-ups. Do similar with pull-ups by changing your grip: both over h...

Re: Exercises to support the knees... Track & Field related

Hey Steve, first let me say that if your knees are causing you that much pain you should have it evaluated and probably an MRI taken just to be sure that activity isn't causing further injury. That being said here are a few exercises I use with knee pain challenged clients. Lay down on your back and...

Re: How can I get slender rather than bulky legs?

Good advice from Boss Man.When you say bulky are you talking about muscle mass or excess fat. If its muscle then doing more reps with less weight should help. Do compound functional movements like lunges, squats, step-ups rather than single joint movements like leg extensions and leg curls. For card...

Re: Upright Bike or Cycle Bike

A sprint bike like you would use in a spin class would offer you a chance to do more realistic workouts and can handle the stress and speed changes of a high intensity workout. You also get a more realistic workout if the bike allows you to stand up on the pedals as you would outdoors. Best, Los Ang...

Re: Metabolism

Your best bet is to spread your calories out over the entire day. 3 meals and 3 snacks spread out about 3 hours apart max should help keep blood sugar levels and your metabolism constant. If you are doing natural body building don't over do the calories or you'll just get fat. Try 30% protein, 30% h...

Re: exercises for bad posture and rounded shoulders?

Something you can do anywhere is sit or stand up straight, arms hanging at sides, shrug shoulders straight up, pinch shoulders blades together (think back cleavage) and continue to squeeze as you lower your shoulders. Repeat for 15 reps. Do these a couple of times a day. As it gets easier squeeze ha...

Re: Cardio vs Weight training

Adding cardio is always good for weight loss, but weight training should also burn fat. 3 Times a week focus on doing shorter harder full body workouts. Warm-up, then do 3 circuits of 10 exercises (compound full body movements are best) trying to go through the exercises without rest. When you finis...

Re: How to Lose weight when you have a lot of muscle.

Weight loss begins with diet. Keep a food journal then try to do a clean 40% carbs, 30% fat and 30% protein diet. Aim for 10 Calories per pound of body weight. As far as exercise I highly doubt that lean body mass was the problem. That being said do a mix of long duration cardio (1 hr+)on alternatin...

Re: any tips for a newbie please

I would pick 10 exercises max to work out the full body. Example chest press, lat pull-downs, chest flys, rows, seated shoulder press, face-pulls, (squats, deadlifts, lunges or leg press) for lower body followed by jumping jacks, (crunches, reverse crunches till they burn)in that order. Start with 2...
