Re: Which of these proteins is better? Are they even proteins?
BCAA are pretty damn useful, especially if you're looking to build muscle. Taking around 40g grams (20g pre and 20g post) helps keep your testosterone levels higher for longer after workouts. Testosterone being a very potent hormone for muscle building, you want to do everything you can (apart from ...

Re: Lower back strength
I would recommend you get yourself checked out for a spinal deformity called Lordosis. It's an accentuated curve in the Lumbar region (lower back) caused by increased amount of weight being carried in the abdomen area. Commonly caused by pregnancy or obesity. Also if you're within 20 weeks of giving...

Re: Update with progress and program
Ideally, during a routine you want to work the big muscle movements first, working down to the smaller ones. Unless you're doing a separate arms day then arms would tend to come at the end of a session. What I've been doing recently is double set bench press with pull ups. Added to this I try to wor...

Re: Update with progress and program
Well done on keeping up the hard work fella! Weight will fluctuate from day to day, that's normal. What I do is weigh myself at around the same time on two consecutive days and take an average of the two to get a better idea of weight. I've had as much as a 1.4kg difference over two days before. Mus...

Re: Training during Ramadan
Just add a little to what Boss has said. The optimal time to train (especially with weights) is about 3-4 hours after waking, as your cortisol levels are higher in the morning and would give you more energy. It's also good to have eaten at least twice before training. This is optimal, however optima...

Re: Resistance Bands versus DB's
Resistance bands work in a different way as they overload the muscles more at the end of the concentric range, ie. as the tension in the band increases so does the resistance, so think of it as a barbell, as you push the bar you've got people adding weight to it, and as you lower the bar they're rem...
Re: pull ups
Yeah, it's a bit of a waste of space that machine. If you want to get better at a specific exercise, then you need to do that exercise, or look at any muscular factors that could be limiting you, structural imbalances and such.

Re: Beginner with beginner questions thus far
There's a load you can find here: http://www.shapefit.com/trainingmap.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Just make sure you're working the full range of motion during exercises. If you're only working your partial ROM in order to lift more weight you're only cheating yours...
Re: pull ups
There's no substitute for pull-ups. A good protocol for improving at them is to do as many pull ups as you can, then when you get to the point that you know you won't be able to pull yourself up to the top again, lower yourself to the fully extended position as slowly as you can, try and aim for abo...

Re: Beginner with beginner questions thus far
no worries about the questions mate, you're doing the right thing. Me and swanso5 have your back! When it comes to changing things around there's various things you can do. If you had been doing flat bench press for the previous 6 sessions, you could then change to incline bench press. This results ...

Re: Beginner with beginner questions thus far
Having a look through the exercises, a few don't seem so great if I'm honest. The exercises you do using the ball as a platform is largely pointless in aiding any strength gains, as unstable platforms are detrimental to trying to gain strength. Therefore I would advise doing these from a stable plat...

Re: proper bulking cardio
None, is honest opinion based on what I read and I do myself. For optimal results when building muscle ('bulking'), avoid cardio. However, at the end of the day if you enjoy doing cardio then by all means feel free to include it, as we all go to the gym to enjoy ourselves. It depends on your goal/pu...
