Re: Things you've learned through experience

Well, not at the gym but on running and jogging: 1. Don't run 6 miles when you haven't ran/jog in a long while (do a walk/run combination for a 1-2 mile at first and then built up). I learned this the hard way and was so sore and tender for a whole week. 2. Stretching is important before and after e...

Re: Feeling sleepy after exercise?

I have experienced this too, many a time. Especially after a long run (4-6 miles runs/jogs) I just get sleepy. I would take a shower after, put on a clean t-shirt and shorts, and take a 1-2 hour nap on the couch. And normally, I feel great after.

Re: run with sore legs

Do lots of stretching the next day and go for a walk instead too.

Because you could run your risk of a bad injury if you ran on really sore legs the next day.

Re: Best Cardio?

Long walks and runs/jogs (on lots of inclines and hills) are great cardio workouts.

Try to go on a 6 mile walk over lots of hills and rough terrain. Great workout and a great sweat.

Re: Exactly How Intense Should You Go?

The most intense I go is like 90 minutes. I do long-short days. And long days are 90 minutes of cardio, ligh weights, and Pilates. And on short days is only like 45-60 minutes (depending how I feel and such). I'll just go for a long walk and/or a jog and that's it.

Re: Running Question

Running does burn a ton of calories, but if you have already a knee problem, probably everyday is not a good idea. How about every other day? Walk on the day you don't run. It sure saves the knees and let's them "rest" some before your run the next day.

LOL! If money wasn't so tight with us right now, I would have joined a gym. I do miss the gym. Haven't been a member of one since 2002.

Re: Have You Ever Been on TV?

Yup, about 3 separate times. 1. First time was back around 1985, the Texas Bicentennial thing we had in front of our elementary school. There was news reporters everywhere and cameras. 2. Around the early 80's when mother was a nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas ( hometown). She took...

Don't You Dread The Seasonal Changes?

I notice that when it gets cold (the fall/winter seasons), I tend to workout less (like only 3 times a week). Why is this? And why in the summer/spring seasons I can workout all day (or so it feels like it) and go everyday of the week? Weird! So, I dread when it's fall and winter. I can't wait til s...

Re: how long does sunscreen last?

You should reapply sunscreen about 3 times a day, if you are staying outside all day, that is. About every 2-3 hours is a good idea. And always wear something over SPF 30 or more. If you have a habit of staying outside more than 3-4 hours, it's wise to go up to SPF 50 or more for even better protect...

I like doing 2-5 lbs. light weight training 2-3 times a week. But I find it boring and tiresome sometimes.

Re: How do you keep motivated

Normally, how I stay motivated is I just think of the summer season and the swimsuits I'll be buying coming up ever March and/or April. So, that keeps me motivated to maintain weight and stay healthy. We go to the beach every summer for vacation.
