Sprinting Improvement

Postby B1rdm4n7 » Sat May 02, 2009 8:38 pm

Hey everyone

I was wondering, is sprinting the only way to get better at sprinting? If not than what are ways to get faster at sprinting and my acceleration?

acceleration is basically the first 10 or so meters so it's not actually sprinting that improves it but actually practicing your starts

what do you need sprinting for? most sports don't require 100m sprints and not in a straight line either

in the wt room concentrate on getting your squats, deadlifts and chin ups numbers up as the first 2 are great for rate of force development (the ability to move explosively from standing still) and relative strength for chin ups (the ability to handle your own bodyweight)

Yep. Even if you wanted to sprint for some reason, technique is the name of the game. Obviously things like Power, strength water and Fat levels, have something to do with it, but technique is almost certainly the king of sprints, so you might find if you wanted to do sprinting for any reason, getting technique nailed would be the all important thing.

well practice your starts first then and work from there...you can't be fast over 100m if you're not fast over 10 or 20m, you'll be too far behind

While that may be true I think one should run the whole distance and see what their time is. Then see how they rate. Maybe he's a fast closer.
