Track training

Postby laurenwilcox » Mon Mar 01, 2010 7:13 pm

Hi there,
I'm just wondering if there are any track stars out there to help me start up a good training program before the season starts in May.
I'm currently working out 4-5 days a week, usually full body workouts or I'll spend a day doing all core training then running the fire tower at my school 10-15 times (4 flights of stairs).

Just looking for some input on some exercises i should be doing to get my body ready for the upcoming track season.
ps. I usually participate in the 400m, 200m and long jump, but am considering trying something longer like the 800m and posibly hurdling.

Thanks, any suggestions would be great :D

i'd cut your wt training to 2/week maybe depending on your schedule and add the core into those days to leave you'

a - more time for running
b - more rest days

if you can double up on some days so wts in am and a short/low vol running day in the pm x 1 - 2 week

do your longer track days on their own day

number 1 tip - work on your weakness (starts, acceleration, speed endurance etc)

why the 800m? how many events can person do effectively?

i do like your endeavour though, not many young chicks are like that these days, not over here anyway

Thanks for the tips.

I would like to try the 800m because last year i didnt do as well as i would have liked in the 200m. Maybe its just not my race...I'm still going to try it again but I'd also like to see how I do in a longer race. -plus, its extra exercise training for more events :P lol

There is like 3ft of snow outside still, can i just run on a tredmill?
