Feeling sick after working abs

Postby meaok77 » Sat Jul 31, 2010 4:39 pm

Hi. Ok so just as my topic says I feel sick after I work my abs. This has always been an issue for me since HS when I started exercising. Even after months of doing workouts that include working your abs I will still feel sick to my stomach afterwards. I always thought it was because my abs weren't tight and the muscles was not used to being worked out the way it was (different crunches etc.). I was just wondering if this is normal when working out abs. I understand everyone is different and not everyone could experience this. I thought that it was because I had eaten BEFORE working out, so recently I changed that and started eating AFTER I workout and still notice the sick feeling. I also thought it was because most of the workout programs I follow do the ab segment at the end, so I thought it could that I'm fatigued, but recently I started doing one of Jillian Michaels exercise circuit routines and she does abs about 15 minutes into the circuit and I still get that sick feeling. Could it be that my abs are not used to the crunch motion? Could it be a sign I'm working myself too hard (I workout 2x's a day, 30 min each at least to reach my 500 or more daily burned calories)? Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Oh...and I only do the abs once a day every day. I do cardio 2x's a day. Usually walking then later in the afternoon following a high impact cardio program.

Cardio twice a day in addition to weights, sounds like you could be doing too much. It's important to rest too.

I don't do weights separately. At least not now. I want to concentrate more on the cardio right now, so I don't use weights unless the routine I'm doing includes them, and when they do include them it's very light. But I will take that into consideration.

Weights are important for bone density, tissue building & a multitude of other things. While you are doing compound lifts you are constantly working your core ( abs ) for stabilization.Free weights are of most benefit for this.Along with improving your overall strength, you will build lean body mass, which helps your skeletal system function better, for us women it can help achieve that " toned " look. For every one pound of muscle you have there is 45 calories burnt, from doing nothing but sitting or standing still. It will help you do more effective cardio.Women do not possess enough natural testosterone to become massive, if that is your concern.

Yeah I was worried about bulking up. I started using weights more in the past week. I use 3Ib dumbbells and my boyfriend just bought me 5Ib (2.5Ib each) ankle/wrist weights. I usually use the ankle/wrist weights while I go for walks. I was doing ab workouts everyday, but I've changed that to following "Pamela Peeke Body for Life For Women" workout schedule. I followed that program religiously before I had my baby and it worked for me. I thought I had lost the book and tried to do my own schedule, which included doing abs everyday, but realized that it wasn't working and found my book!
