Daily ab workouts

Postby tcrisp » Mon Sep 08, 2008 1:12 am

I usually do 175 situps a night and I almost never feel them. I did 500 the other night and didn't feel them, not even the day after. Is that good or bad?

Oh, and I don't do them in a row. I do them in sets of 30 and then the final set it usually to round off to my total.

You would be better off doing compound exercises in a circuit fashion than situps.

You cannot target fat on the body to burn it off. You can target muscle groups to build on. So no, sit ups will not get rid of the spare tire.

175 to 500 situps a day, what a waste of energy and time.

cheers

okay thanks vamp, if situps is a waste of time in which I have read several times on this forum, what would you recommend to deflate the old spare tire.

Weights and forms of cardio traing and sprints.

Ie. Manday, Wed and Fri weights full body with about 6 or 7 excercises all compound exercises in a circuit style workout and 15 minute intense cardio like Elyptical, running, swimming, biking, etc.

Tues, Thurs 15-20 minutes of sprints followed by 15 minutes of medium intensity steady paced cardio.

Sat. Recreational Cardio, play a sport, hiking, biking, running, etc. for about and hour or more.

DIET-go to the diet and nutrition forum and read the sticky labled "read this before posting"

After that ask more questions :)

Cheers

Situps r outdated now & very ineffective. Crunches, Planks are popular now & very effective. 15 reps/set, 3 sets each & I feel great. U'll feel the same, trust me.

Clean diet, variations of ab work. Hanging leg raises, ball crunches, military weighted leg lifts, reverse crunches, and incline leg lifts. It's the quality of the crunch you do. If your form sucks, you're not going to get results. You need to feel the burn. Slow and proper breathing. You can do 1000 situps a day. Won't do a thing for you without cleaning up what you eat. Wasting your time doing it daily. Abs are a muscle, they need rest.

The best (and only) thing I've found to 'deflate my spare tire' was Cardio and diet. It is impossible to target the fat on your body, and the mid-section is always the hardest to lose. My diet was simply cutting down in the food I do eat, and making healthier choices, ie: get away from the fast food places and snack food. My cardio was/is treadmill, elliptical and swimming. On the treadmill and elliptical I varied my routine, but it usually consists of walking and sprinting with varied inclines. Just press the button for a mixed routine on the treadmill (hill walk or whatever). I personally preferred the treadmill over the elliptical just because of my foot spacing - too much elliptical and my hips would get sore.
When I first started out it took a few months before I noticed any significant changes in my body, but keep at it and you'll reach your goal!!

If you properly execute sit ups it will burn that belly fat. but doing sit ups has a lot of cheats, using your shoulder to pull the upper body, swinging your upper body, rocking your body as you partially move the buttocks up and down, pulling the effort on your tights, and so on. The mainting is concentration, just like doing the concentration culrs for the biceps. You need to focus on your abs and dont press your chin against you upper chest. imagine that theres an imaginary tennis ball on it. Sit-ups becomes obselete in a sense of those cheats. But if you execute in proper posture you will got what you want.

sit ups are shit, period

workplace requirements for manual labour states that no more thgen 730pds of compression should be loaded on the spine at any one time

guess how much compression EACH sit up places on the spine....you guessed it, 730pds

still a great now?
