Advice Needed (13 Year Old)

Postby Hat1343 » Wed Mar 11, 2009 6:36 pm

Hi guys :) . I'm Ryan, i'm 13 years old and i have started working out, i have been working out for like 3 weeks, all i do is just situps, crunches and lift weights, i do around 1000 situps every day like sets in 50. I can see a 2 pack coming out, but i need some advice on some abdominal exercises, situps are getting boring and hardly do anything so i want to switch to some others what i can do.

Cheers.

welcome,

and never do 1000 situps expecting results. It's a good measuring stick, congratulations, but that's it. doing anything more then 12, much less 1000, will only work in muscle stamina, while not taking your muscles to another level. so always work in high intensity. Whether it be sprinting, or jumping. Push-ups and squats are also great compound and intense workouts that will shape not only your abs, but your whole body.

build your body, or tone your body. your abs will follow suit.

situps dont give u a six pack.
i rarely do ab workouts (like 2 or 3 a month)
and my ab muscles are slowly strating to show.
you have to reduce your overall body fat to show off your 6 pack.
its gotta be like under 13%.

stop worrying about abs! get down the gym (or wherever you workout) load a barbell and squat, deadlift, and bench those ab thoughts outta your head!

Agreed. Multiple sit-ups are not an answer.

Diet needs to be modified if you're serious about showing Abs, and there's more to Abs than showness. Substance over style with Abs everytime.

As said Deadlifts, Squats etc etc are a way forward. Can do some direct stuff yeah, but don't waste your time caning Abs with direct stuff day after day, it's counterproductive.

Abs only 3 times a week, if you're adding Direct stuff in, or some people do a massive Abs session per week, and that's all, direct wise.

Exercises: overhead crunches, toe-touchers, flutter kicks, air bike (bicycle), hanging leg raises, reverse crunches

Cardio: do this 2-3 times weekly. From what i heard HIIT Training is the best but any high intensity should do.

I will go against the grain here.

First, don't think "abs" think "torso". You should work your abs, spinal erectors, serratus and obliques equally for a balanced torso.

I do crunches, side crunches, 3/4 crunches, hyper extensions (for the back), dead-lifts, hanging leg raises (straight and side). Also add twists with a bar on your shoulders for a tighter torso.

While it is true that diet will bring out the six pack, if you want a deeply chiseled six pack you need to have strong well-developed abdominals. Hanging leg raises are, in my opinion, the premier abdominal exercise. The resistance is quite high and it will develop larger abdominals that will stand out when your diet allows them to.

Great job on your workout :D! My son is 12 and was a little overweight. I modify his meals. Instead of anytime, anything, I give him 3 meals and 2 snacks / day. He can have his burgers and pizza (his favorite) but in moderation and with lots of veggies. Changed regular soda to diet (limit 2 cups per day), orange juice, 4-5 cups of water per day, peanut butter for snack, 100% whole wheat bread/pasta, skim milk, instead of regular and 1 mini chocolate or 2 oreo cookies for snack with either skim milk or water. He lost 20 lbs and looks awesome!! For exercise: everytime there is a commercial break from his favorite show, he jumps 60 times, 10 push ups and moves his waist from side to side 20 times. Sometimes we throw the basketball at each other high (15 times). We play Wii Mario olympics every other day and once or twice a week he plays either soccer or basketball with his friends. To make him run double I make competitions against his buddies when warming up (like who runs the fastest or jumps the highest). His belly is getting flatter and his arms are getting toned. He calls his biceps missles (instead of guns) LOL :D !! Try to add more cardio and less crunches. You will start to see definiftion in you abs. Good Luck!!
