Ab Questions

Postby wevie » Thu Aug 13, 2009 12:02 am

Although I still have some love handles and few more pounds of fat to rid myself of, my abs are showing down to my belly button, I think.

What is the best way to get them at least flat? Of course the six pack lines would be great also.

I want to get the round look down and make them flat. Like I said, I am pretty sure that's abs and not fat but.......

Abs are frequently the last thing seen, and the most difficult to maintain. Diet Diet Diet.

Like Lesplease said, it's more about what you put in your mouth. That is, if you're doing a complete ab workout three times a week, then the rest of the equation is reducing your bodyfat levels, but bear in mind that most people will never see a six-pack because they can't get their bodyfat levels down low enough. Just give it your best shot and see how you go. Even without a sixpack, a trim waistline looks really good.

What are the best exercises for the abs then. What are the best for the upper and the lower?

I don't really every expect to get six pack but it never hurts to try.

Direct workouts:
Leg raises, hanging knee raises, planks (sides too), bridge, plate twists, Jackknife... etc…

Indirect workouts: (Compounds)
Dead lifts, squats, press, pull ups/chin ups, dips… etc…

Most importantly… workout your mouth… you gotta chew GOOD & HEALTHY FOOD to get those abs!!

If your diet and training are spot on but you still cannot get rid of that last layer of fat, that could be an indicator of a hormonal imbalance. You should read about Charles Poliquin’s Biosignature Modulations:

http://www.charlespoliquin.com/introduction1.php

http://www.charlespoliquin.com/Health/bio-sig-mod.php

http://www.charlespoliquin.com/Suppleme ... -facts.php

While CP does understand you cannot spot reduce, he has pointed out how hormones and diet can affect certain areas. He is very well respected in his field, so I highly recommend you read everything on this site.

Howdy Wevie,

You're asking what lower abs exercises are good. I would suggest you perform the curls, crunches, bicycles, knee to chest stretch exercises. Start with 5-10 repetitions for each exercise and perform these 2-3 times per week. If you do this together with a low fat diet you'll see the abs that you wanted.
