fitness regime help

Postby Kev90 » Mon Oct 05, 2009 12:53 pm

I am having trouble setting up a half decent fitness regime that i can fit around my working life so any help would be very much apprecitive as I am not to sure what would be the best exercises to do to achive my results as i hope to sign up to the forces soon so it would be mainly my running and some strength that I need to work on.
P.S im also quite lazy but if i can get something to work for me i know i can stick at it

I agree with uponline training. But, let me add this, besides tons of push-ups, sit-ups (yes they still do old fashion sit ups) pull-ups and the pole lift as a group, you will run, run and run. So, spent thirty minutes 3 times week doing sets of push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, one arm dumbbell clean and press, and deadlifts. Clearly the idea is to do this in a high intensity format (build to little rest between exercises.) On the other days you should run, sprint once a week 200 and 400 meter intervals for 20 - 30 minutes, and twice a week try to build your distance. Add some hills as you get stronger.

Sorry, I just found that really funny. He does have a username afer all

You could also try to incorporate things like Squats in there as well and maybe things like Bent Over Rows.

The other stuff already mentioned including Sprints are good ways to go, or you could do running intervals, so you jog for a minute, quicken up for 30 seconds and do that as an example, to stop your heart rate getting into a steady rhythm it can adapt to, potentially losing long-term efficacy of Cardio.

Hi Kev
I am currently serving in the British Army and although the advice already given is sound I will post the Training Program reccomended by the the Army Physical Trg Instructors which if followed will bring you(over 16 weeks) to the basic required standard you will need during basic trg.
Remember this is the basic standard needed and if followed Will condition your body for the progression training which you will encounter during Basic Training.
Good Luck .. And Keep motivated . It's worth it :)

Circuit training exercises

Do the number of repetitions of each exercise advised by the 16-week planner, without a break and in order. Once you've completed one circuit, rest for 2-3 minutes before starting the next. Each exercise is explained in the relevant booklet (all booklets will be available to download here by the end of the week).

1 Press-up
2 Twist sit-up
3 Step-up with knee raise
4 Triceps dip
5 Walking lunge
6 Sit-up
7 One-legged squat
8 Dorsal raise

Note: If "level 1, week 1" of the programme seems too easy for you, feel free to skip a week or even a level. Equally, if a week ever feels too challenging, simply do what you can and repeat the week, rather than moving on to the next one.
