Best Exercise Mix?

Postby milly » Wed Oct 28, 2009 3:22 am

Would appreciate some expert advice to achieve my continued goal of fat loss and better muscle definition as I have reached a plateau again!! Only 4kgs to go.

I am currently doing:

Mon: 45 - 60 minute walk
Tues a.m. 20 min spin class & 50 min BodyPump Class
Tues p.m. Body Attack
Wed: 45-60 min walk
Thurs a.m. 50 min BodyPump Class
Thurs p.m. Body Attack
Fri: 45-60 min walk
Sat: Off
Sun: 50 minute BodyPump

Is this too much of one type? Not enough of one type?

Also can anyone suggest a website that shows good pushup and chest (with bar) techniques as I have hurt my shoulder.

Hi Milly. I am definitely not an expert, but I can offer some suggestions. :) It sounds like you have a very busy workout week! I admire your dedication. It does seem like alot of cardio, but I could be wrong...what is a Body pump and Body Attack class? Does that involve any weight lifting? If not, then I would definitely consider replacing some of those classes with some free weights, weight lifting.
You might try on your 45 - 60 minutes walks to add some HIIT intervals in there. Maybe walk at a normal pace for 2 minutes, then for 1 minute you could either walk at a very fast pace, or try jogging, do that 3 or 4 times in your workout time. Those time indication of 2 min/1 min. are just suggestions, you could do 1 minute/ 30 secs., whatever you feel you are able to do that pushes you, but doesn't injure or overtax you.

I've found some really great demonstration videos right here at Shapefit. Here are some exercises that work the shoulders & chest:

Good Luck on your continued success! :D

Howdy! About how long have you been on this schedule? I have found that BodyPump classes are good to start with, but that after a bit it can be beneficial to branch out on your own and get into more "serious" weights. Sometimes mixing up your workout or diet can really help knock you off a plateau and get your on your way!

I agree with Lynne (who is very good and very modest!) that maybe some more intesnse cardio on a few of your walk days could be beneficial.

Good luck!

I agree with both posts here. Adding more resistance training would be a great change up as would doing shorter more high intensity training and saving a little more time for your recovery. Try adding sprints on a cycle of if you can run it'll really spark your weight loss. Lastly don't forget to get at 7-8 hours sleep.Inadequate sleep is associated with weight gain.
