Jared is getting back to strength training

Postby JBesson » Wed Feb 16, 2011 12:16 pm

I've just completed my rehab for a slap tear in my shoulder I got in October. Yikes, talk about discomfort.

Since I'm healthy now, I've started my training back up this week, I did a session on Monday, which went pretty well, and will be getting the second one in later this afternoon. As you can imagine I felt a little fatigued early on. All the training I had done before has dwindled considerably.

I'm using bodyweight exercises as my reintroduction to conditioning. I used the Convict Conditioning program before hand and am familiar with how impacting the results can be. Luckily my diet has been the saving grace for keeping the weight off. I've had the chance to meet others with similar injuries during my rehab and all seem to be stressed about how much weight they had put on. It's really challenging to do get in a comfortable cardio session.

The bodyweight routine will let me workout from home. I'm not a gym rat, and loathe the people who spend their whole day hanging around, doing more chit-chatting that actual workouts. I'm not there to find a date.

I've modified the CC routine to Mon,Wed and Fri splits. For Monday I'm doing full body routines. I was nervous at first when I started the other day, but as soon as I found my stride there wasn't any pain. I was totally conscious of being careful, but all went well.

For Wed -today- I'll be hitting the pushing and leg lift exercises. I plan to let Fridays be about the pulling (assisted pullups for starters) and the mighty squats. If I'm up to it, I might tack on a workout for Saturday too. We'll see.

I can't wait to get back to catch up to where my conditioning was at last year. Before I know it Summer will be here and I'll have to show off my six pack abs. And I can say I that I relied on nothing but bodyweight training and ab workout routines from home to get an awesome body.

This is going to be be fun.

What is a slap tear ?..

As a fellow shoulder injury person ( full supraspinatous tear ) I actually have not had mine fixed although I've adapted well.I find I have to do narrow grip on most things, such as pull ups, bench press etc.I am now edging out further as the muscle builds, though sharply reminded of the injury sometimes.

Putting the bar behind your head for squats, might cause some discomfort. These of course are my experiences only & may not ever apply to you.Good luck to you & welcome back to your training :)

The joy that is a SLAP tear has to do with pain real deep in the shoulder. It's something that's common in baseball pitchers. It There's a ring of tissue over the shoulder socket that's called the labrum. It's suppose to prevent dislocations. This specific injury is called a SLAP because of the way the injury is classified: "Superior Labrum Anterior to Posterior."

I kept me from doing specific exercises, and knocked me out of my training routine altogether for those few months. Luckily I didn't need surgery, though the risk was there, but lots of physical therapy sessions.

Second Session Into Training

Postby JBesson » Wed Feb 23, 2011 11:24 pm

It's Wed, and just finished my exercise session for the day.

Finding my way back into my workout sessions is apparently a real morale booster. Using the minimal time I have gotten to exercise, I absolutely do feel like the better person. I just seem to smile more, it should be all those endorphins kicking in.

At any rate, I am looking towards my cardio exercise with the dog at dawn. She enjoys to get out and get rid of the cobwebs. And also Friday I'm hoping may be a wonderful finale to the week.
