Well done. Sersiously, as it shows just how much time and effort you are willing to put in. You are definiely proving yourself to be a great female rolemodel, and for everything you have done so far, you should be very proud of yourself.

I am looking into a new weight training program. ChaLean was really good but I think I need something more than that now.

My husband has p90X and I am thinking of trying that, but that seems to be above my fitness level. I watched the first workout and it is pretty much and hour of push-ups and chin-ups, I don't think my girly arms can handle it. I can only do assisted chin-ups right now. It would be cool do to at least one chin-up unassisted though. I think as I lose more weight, it will become easier. The circuit gets repeated once so I may try a half hour of the workout. I am also going to get that book the new rules of weight lifting for women. Any one read that?

This week in kickboxing, Sempai is focusing on strength. The strenghth workouts I can handle, the cardio I am lacking sorely. Last week she did cardio based exersices. It just amazes me that I go there feeling like I am in such great shape and can handle it all, to wishing that God would see fit to cut the power to the dojo so I can stop. Funny thing is that when she did this 7 minute drill (after 45 minutes of exersice) of 'mountain clibers', jogging in place, and knee-ups, she said if someone had to sit out they could. So I was hoping someone would, so I could. I just could not be the weak one to sit out first. No one sat out, so I stayed in the whole time. I slept like a baby that night.

Last Thursday we had a new guy come to jujitsu. He wants to be in the UFC and he is built just like any of those welter weight guys. I am totally not used to getting pushed around like this guy did to me. He was wicked strong. Good news is that he didn't win our match, I didn't either but the important part is that he didn't win. 38 year old mom of 6 VS. 26 year old in fighting shape...0-0 = win to me

Summer has me outside more and more these days and less and less on the computer. This weekend was very busy. I was entered twice in women's and mixed doubles tennis in the local tournament. Then I went to a board breaking seminar where I punched through tiles. Great weekend.

Fight training has been hard lately. I am not as quick as others. I can't seem to read a punch or a kick properly and I block wrong. Last monday, I blocked a round house with my arm rather then my leg and I got a HUGE lump. I wound up getting set home instead of full contact training. I still have the lump.

I am doing my weight training again. I had a friend that would come over and train with me but she slowly stopped coming. It was getting sporadic and finally stopped. I am better with a freind by my side, but I will stay focused. I need to get stronger, more flexable and more endurance. Is there a program for all that? Well today is day 3 of the program, I am back doing the ChaLean.

The main thing is just to get back on it. Some people will have these moments, where they let their activities slide. The thing you need to do, is not be hard on yourself, just try to learn from it, accept it, and keep pushing on.

It's not like you have been up and down weekly, so I wouldn't give yourself a hard time about things, as I find it doesn't do any good.

My tounament is schedualed for the weekend of the 24th October, in middleton or middletown CT. Lu are you near there?

Had a bit of a set back on monday, well it should have been a set back. I dislocated my finger real bad in sparring class. Was the ugliest thing I ever did see. Shihan set it back in place. Now I cannot close my hand because of the swelling. Makes holding weights a bit hard so I will do body weight exersices. Last night I went to kickboxing figuring I would skip the left hand punches and replace it with an elbow while doing bag work. That worked out real well and I had a good workout. Tennis this morning was okay but swinging my hand around was uncomfortable.

This morning I finally went under 180. I am 179.5, I know, not a big loss but scale seems to not want to move for me latly and it is 1/2 pound closer to my goal. Speaking of goals, I changed mine. I wanted to be 135, but I am thinking 150 would be more realistic for my body composition.

Don't forget WE are by your side! Tho' not there in person, I and many others here support you and wish you all the best.
I know how it feels to work out alone...it is hard...and can get discouraging at times...but like you said, stay focused and continue to use your journal as your "check-in", letting us in on your progress, or thoughts, how you are feeling, when you need a little boost, or encouragement. You will realize that you are not alone, we got ur back!!

I am so impressed and proud of your growth and achievements in martial arts! I worked up to yellow belt in Taekwondo a couple of years ago. I loved the workouts, they are tough...and sparring was hard on me physically...always bruised up!

Take care of that lump, and your finger and don't let it rock your confidence in your fight abilities. It is a learning experience that will make you stronger and a better fighter in the long run. You go girl!!

Congrats on the 179.5!! :D :D

Last night my fight trainer told me that I HAVE to run. He has I need the stamina. I agree but does it have to be running? I would probably dislike anything for endurance though. I was jogging for a bit but when tennis started, I stopped running. Can't do both in the same morning. I didn't like to run anyway.

The heat in Maine has been close to 100 all week and people are melting in the dojo. There are two small vent fans and an open door and that is it for ventilation. People are leaving puddles of sweat everywhere, i am one of them. My jammed finger is getting better but I am still throwing elbows instead of jabs with that hand.

One of the guys in the dojo will be fighting MMA in November. I am so excited for him. He will be fighting in CT with me in October too.

I think what your trainer is trying to do is build your aerobic endurance by saying you must run. To be able to work longer and more efficient at a higher heartrate. (don't know the "technical" term for that)
If you don't like to run, then don't. There is nothing worse than forcing yourself to do an exercise that you are not enjoying..you won't stick with it.
Other forms of endurance type exercises are as Nokie said, jumping rope or bike riding, elliptical, lap swimming (definitely kicks butt for building endurance and aerobic conditioning). Power walking may be a good option for you.

You might be talking about Tidal Volume, the amount of Air breathed in and out in one repetition / cycle, or Stroke Volume, the amount of Bloodflow in and out of the Heart at any one moment.
