Yeah, it is definitely important to fuel up before workouts, especially HIIT's!!
After workouts I like to eat a 2% mozz. cheese stick for the protein. Some folks have a protein shake. I also like to eat a banana sliced w/peanut butter, yummm!
Yogurt is good, it has a bit of carb and protein in it. I'm sure there are other suggestions...just can't think of any right now. I'm pretty sure Cassie would say to eat a bowl of oatmeal w/eggwhites! :D LOL
You did what? You walked a mile home and a mile back, then did your HIIT?!! Good grief girl, no wonder you were starving after your workout! You had two workouts!

Kinda bummed today - no weight loss this week. :(
My shins are sore, my back muscles are sore. I know I trained hard this week, and my eating was good. But the last two weeks I lost weight, so this must be my "off" week. Or maybe I grew some muscle. Not gonna over analyze it, just work harder next week, and keep on keeping on! Have a great weekend everybody!

Could be muscle gain too, or maybe you just started to be "on", if you catch my drift.

I had a weak moment today when I thought "what the heck am I doing and why?" Just a moment of frustration brought on by weeks of working hard trying to find the perfect combination of weights/cardio/diet to further my progress. And I got mad at myself for still (even tho' I try so hard not to) letting that stupid scale get to me. I thought I was past all of that...I tell others here not to worry about the scale, then I go and worry about the stupid scale!!
I think the main reason for my despair is that I have managed to get a slight case of shin splints...and that has me REALLY bummed! Nothing makes me madder than to be held back by an injury especially when I know better, and I know what it takes to prevent them, but yet I failed to follow those simple rules.
I also have a muscle pain on the left side of my back, right up near my underarm. I felt it when i was doing my wide grip lat pulldowns the other day, then again when I was doing tri-cep dips. Wondering if it has anything to do with upping my weights to 81 lbs? Should I go back down on the weight some? Not sure what to do. I am stubborn enough to continue to try to do the exercises, so I need some guidance here!
Taking a day or two off to give the ole' body a chance to recuperate. I may have to ride my racing bike for a few days, I've got a sweet 18 speed Miyata racing bike I bought used a few years back when i started doing triathlons. She's old but she's fast - like me :D and together we are unstoppable! :D

Haha you're not old!

Keep it up, Lynne. I don't even own a scale, and I've found that it helps me not focus on what it says. (: You could try that maybe?

I would advise a few days off. (I had 2 last week. 'Twas magnificent!) Also, try doing some of the painful exercises with low weight (like 20lbs) just to check your form maybe. Then up your weights, maintaining form and see if that is the problem?

Good luck to you!!

Seems like we r sharing the same mood the last few days..though Ive hopped on the scale & have lost weight ( dont use that scale as a rule though ) im still annoyed.Im 45 & have skin of an 85 yr old, I too wondered so where is ALL this work getting me ??..decided it is getting me HEALTHY...which in the realm of things, is what is most important.Take the rest you need, enjoy your bike, that is what it is all about, enjoying your fitness, once you cease to enjoy it, you will abandon it.Hope everything works out for you, we start 3 intervals this week !! YAY :D

Thanks Les, sometimes it just feels like it. It seems like just yesterday I was 25, and it blows my mind when I realize that 22 years have gone by since then! I refuse to grow old "gracefully" I am going to fight it every step of the way! I'm not talking about doing facelifts, or tummy tucks, or brow lifts (although I noticed the other day that my eyelids were drooping  ) but just continuing to do what I am doing now, staying active (even saying that makes me sound old!) and challenging myself. I'm always looking for another race, or another triathlon, another challenge to keep me motivated. I can not envision myself ever reaching a point in my life where I just say "okay, that's it, I want to feel old now...where's my recliner?!

You are right Bonnie....I was just feeling a bit defeated, having a little pity party for myself....thanks for reminding me what it's all about. And you are also right about needing to enjoy our fitness or else we will abandon it....I really struggled last week, every workout seemed forced, especially after I started feeling the pain, I thought I had to push through and do it anyway...so ended up dreading it. I think that is when our body is saying "hey! I need a break!"
I don't get to start my 3 intervals yet....still have one more 6 interval to do, I missed one this week. Maybe I will do it on the bike, that would be cool! (and fun! :D )

why check her form at 20pds? you won't use the same form at 20pds that you would at 80pds

the wt increase is not the problem here, you may have some restriction in the teres major, get a tennis ball and roll on it on the affected area

Sometimes form is sacrificed at higher weights, so if she goes to a lower weight she can double check that she's maintaining form. It works for me sometimes, just a thought (:

not at 25% of what you need good form at, i'm sure that isn't the problem anyway, pulldowns done right or wrong will not injure you

thanks you guys for your advice. I understand what you are saying Les, about sacrificing form when going to higher weights. When I was trying the bench press (seated upright bench press machine - not a weight bar, or DB's) at the higher weight, I noticed in order to "push" the bar out I was sort of twisting, pushing out unevenly just to get the bar out in front of me. Once I got it out, I just did my reps without letting it go back down all the way. That may have been how the trouble started - then when doing the lat pulldowns I felt it.

What does that mean, and how do I fix it? I have a foam roller I can use to work out the soreness, but how do I fix the problem of the restriction?

1 - that is why you never be on a machine, whatever level you are at

2 - where it hurts get a tennis ball and roll around on it either standing up against a wall or actually lying on it, like on your side...the tres major is that spot right udner the armpit...also foam roll yout lats

search youtube for 'cressey foam roll series" and you'll get a video
