interesting info on The Vitamin C Foundation website:
Research shows that your body needs sufficient vitamin C to burn fat. In one study, people who had low blood concentrations of vitamin C and walked on a treadmill for an hour burned 25 percent less fat than people with adequate C. But a dose of C brought fat-burning levels back up to par. Why? Seems C is essential for creating carnitine, a substance that turns fat into fuel.
To keep your fat-burning abilities high, we recommend taking 1,200 milligrams of C per day.

according the their research Vitamin C can cure/prevent most illness/flu/, etc. Of course we get alot of vitamin c in the foods we eat, but it might be sensible to take an additional supplement during the cold winter months to help boost immunity.
My husband takes 3 vit. c pills a day (1500 mg.) it seems to be working for him. I hate taking pills of any sort - prefer to get my vitamins in the food I eat (he buys the chewable vitamin c pills) but I really think I will begin taking at least 1 or 2 a day. :D

Huh, lol, cheery to know id be peeing out 940 mg of vitamin C a day  I was on the 500's & just switched to the 1000 mg, so alas my toilet will be getting more benefit than I will !!! Hmmph.

Todays workout
HIIT elliptical..Resistance level 2

3 intervals 30 secs @ 15 mph 90 secs @ 5 mph
5 mins @ 2.6 ish mph
20 mins @ 4.6 - 5 mph HR 145 - 150

Think heart rate was so high, cos I'm fighting some bug, felt like vomiting through the whole 20 mins of SS cardio.Afterwards I had my monthy infusion & was running a slight temp, hopefully the stuff they pumped into me, can now help fight this bug ! ..also I've gained 2.4 kilos ( 4 weeks time )..though I'm almost positive none of that is fat, cos cant gain fat if u dont eat anymore than I was already eating ? Which I just cut back on ..will keep closer eye on portion sizes & meal timing etc...only other variant, is the jeans I wore maybe is 1lb heavier than last ones..hope u all had good day :D

I agree. Just looking at your pics (love the black shorts and sports bra!! cute!) you look slimmer and your legs look built up more. Good grief girl you turned sideways in that one pic (dated 10/05/09) and you nearly disappeared! Your waist is tiny! So you are obviously doing everything right! I wouldn't worry over it too much. Hope you get to feeling better....temps are no fun

I'd question that. C might boost immune system, but to call it a cure is absurd. It is almost certainly not a cure for anything, nor necessarily a prevention for anything much. Having high immune function might prevent onset of disease symptomology, but to prevent illness, it would have to somehow create an invisible barrier in the mouth and nose, that actively blocked germs, microbes, viruses and pathogens.

Contraction of illness might not manifest into active symptomology, but you would have a viral in vivo strain, albeit you might never know, if the levels of immune funvcion boosted by C, would prevent a viral strain getting that far gone and permit cessation of viral activity.

Let's face it, they're selling Vit C on the site, so how much of the truth will you get from a profit making organisation? That's the biggest issue there.

Vitamin C does benefit the immune system, long term. However, no current research suggests that when you start getting sick, taking Vit C, or drinking orange juice, etc, can do anything to prevent onset of the illness, or to reduce its duration. This is against popular belief, and most people will drink lots of orange juice when they start getting sick.

Mostly, Vit C is an antioxidant, which can react with free radicals in the body, preventing them from causing oxidative damage. Vit E is another major antioxidant, but is fat soluble, and can be stored in the body, whereas Vit C, as mentioned earlier, is not stored, and excess is removed.

(: I'm with Boss.

I've been taking vitamin C for about 2 months prior to this illness, it has nothing to do with being sick.

I may have mispoken on the "cure" part..was just going by memory on what I had read on their site. Going back and re reading it says "proved effective in preventing and treating colds and flu". Again it is probably as Boss Man says, just to sell their product. sorry for the confusion!

Please don't apologise Lynne. I'm going to politely decline it, it's not necessary :).

Sometimes you just have to read between the lines and don't always trust people with something to sell, if you can get access to indepndant science, reviews, testimonies etc etc.

As for Skin, Vit C does help with skin Bonnie, as well as Hyaluronic Acid, and Vit C is also responsible for helping to making Collagen for skin, bones and teeth.

Collage for bones is also partially controlled by Copper, and Iron synergist, and as Vit C is an Iron booster the three could to some extent be seen as good bedfellows.

C I beleive also helps to chelate heavy metals from the body.

C does have antioxident properties as state as do E and A, the Fat soluables, as they help supress Free Radical activity, so they can reduce skin aging issues and possibly Oxydatitive Stress.

The the Carotenoids Lutein, Zeaxanthin, Alpha and Beta-carotene aand Lycopene also convert to Vit A an help with things like eye sight, Cancer protection and F R suppression.

Beta-carotene is better than straight Vit A supps as it is not stored as Vit A in the body, but converted when the body needs it. This is rad cos Vit A does have toxicity symptoms, which are probably best avoided.
