My hands used to swell up really bad when I would walk long distances! I always had to take my rings off before I walked.

You are doing great, by the way - very motivational :D

I just got back from my first 5K training session. We did 20 minutes alternating between 1 min running and 2 min walking. When I first got there I saw that the group was made up of twenty and thirty something skinny people so I felt a bit out of place. But, that was only temporary. We were broken into 4 groups. There was a 10k group, a 5K group, a beginning level 2, and a beginning level 1 group. I went with the beginning level 1 group. I found the run to be easier than my treadmill workouts. One worry I had was how well would my legs take the pounding on real ground. I had no problems whatsoever with any pain. I had expected running outdoors would be harder than running on the treadmill. I found it to be easier. I think I may switch my cardio days to the outdoors. It really felt free to be running through the park. I will say now, back in January when I weighed 298 and was sick all the time I started on my diet. One of my goals was to be able to run again. Back then running was a distant goal. Deep down I thought I may never be able to run again. I did not count the treadmill as really running, but I least when I started running on the treadmill I knew I would end up being able to be out and run through the park just like I did when I was a kid. Today was a very big day for me. :D

Great job! You are doing awesome and I am so proud of you for joining the group even though you felt out of place right away - that takes a lot of courage :D

Don't stop believing in you. The day that happens, you'll find your physical ability may plummet, because you'll never want to do anything good about it, to any reasonable extent.

Today was a rest day. Tomorrow, if it is not raining, I think I will not go to the gym. I am going to go to the lakefront and run instead. I stopped on the way home from work today and bought one of those arm bands for holding an iPod so I can queue up London Calling and listen to it while I run. :D

Sounds like a plan! Have a good run! :D I have really gotten spoiled to my mp3 player, couldn't make those long runs without it! It really helps me mentally not to be able to hear my labored breathing - so I don't realize just how tired I really am!

I actually put off a work out 2 years ago, to purchase a new ipod & charge it, I don't like to be tuneless, I feel lost.

The Clash were a great band. Sadly Joe Strummer is no longer with us.
