The next one I am planning is a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning - there is another Turkey Trot the weekend before but I will be in Florida then. The one on T-Day is actually a 5 miler, not a 5K, so it will help to keep me motivated while I am on vacation! Last time I went was right after I joined this site and I ran and swam laps every day I was there - and we are at the same resort so I know the facilities already :D Other than that one, there aren't any others in the area so I will have to wait. So hopefully it doesn't get cancelled tomorrow!!!!

fitoverforty wrote:It usually is only cancelled in cases of lightening. Although I once ran a race in a pouring down thunderstorm, lightening all around.....I just made sure I ran next to a tall guy.....
Good luck this weekend Joc! If there is rain, I hope it washes away your fears, if there is wind, I hope it's at your back for the last mile, and if there are cameras I hope you save your best smile for the finish line!!  You got this!

We just got our final reminder e-mail and as of now it is still on and they will only cancel if it is thundering and lightning. I have never run in the rain though, so that concerns me, but I will do it if I have to. Maybe it will make me run faster

Cameras?!?!?! Now I have to worry about cameras

I'm sure you'll be just fine. Don't worry about it and kepe believing.

The more you believe in the outcome of the race being the best it can be, the more chance you have of making it a reality.

GOOD LUCK :).

Well, my goal was to not cross the finish line last. Instead I placed 2nd and received a medal in the women's 30-39 age division :D :D :D Not that there were a ton of people in that division, but I did beat several of them  My final time was 31:02, so not super fast by any means  At the one mile mark they read off the time as you ran by and I had a 9:26 pace. But I had started out a little faster than I probably should have, so I did eventually slow down. But considering my goal going into the race was to not cross the finish line last, I was pretty pumped to hear my name called at the awards ceremony! We almost didn't stay for it!

My pic I will be posting is awful, but I have to share it :D I can't figure out how to get it in the body of the post so I will just make it my new profile pic for now. It barely looks like me, I am a soggy mess because it rained the entire time! In fact, it was thundering and lightning before we started so they postponed it 20 minutes, then when we started running there were a few more lightning strikes. It was my first time running in the rain, and I really didn't mind it, my goal was just to finish  It felt really good to get a medal, and it is great motivation to keep running them!

Congratulations!!!! 2nd in your age group at your 1st 5k!!! Awesomeness.
You did great, and you learned a few things about pacing, so you apply those things in your next race. Each race is a growing experience. It's hard not to go out too fast, all the excitement, and the energy of the other runners - I do it all the time. But you will learn what works best for you. :D YOU DID GOOD!!! :P :P

Thanks guys! I am still pretty excited about it  I am just so happy that I finally made the first step and went for it, and I can't thank all of you enough for giving me the support that I needed to get me out there :D

I texted the picture to my family afterwards (one sister was there with me with her two boys) and told them I came in second in my division and right away I get a response from a different sister that said "contrats, but we're just curious if there were more than two people in your division."  Sometimes I would like disown some of my family. She thought it was hilarious, I didn't. So that makes me even more grateful for the support I get on this site!

I have been extremely sore since the race yesterday. I stretched really well afterwards, but because it was so cool and rainy, I think it just made me cramp up quite a bit. So I have been continuously stretching today, and I took the day off from working out.

you should be excited! the support on this site really does help with your goals. It's fun to share it with others. :)

I totally know how you feel. I have a sister that loves to make fun of me but she only likes to make jokes about me. I go along with it and have never said anything but yeah it bugs me too. Don't let your sister take away from your excitement!! :D

Don't let anyone detract from what you do and are capable of Jocelyn. You are someone with a wonderful personality and you ARE capable of more than perhaps you could have ever realised.

Your physical achievements are coming on just fine and you're doing extremely well, so be proud of yourself and keep on pushing.

I'm proud of you and no matter what others might say, it can only seriously affect you if you let it, but the good things in your life can be kept close and the bad things at arms length if possible.

Keep going and GOOD LUCK. We are all here for you and we all think a lot of you and it's your right to strive to be amazing and nobodies right to try and stop you :).

Nah, I didn't let it get to me this time - I just told her that next time maybe she should just be happy for me :D I am trying really hard not to let my family get to me the way they usually do! And I am still too excited to let it bug me anymore anyway :D

I did yoga tonight, tomorrow night I will be running.
