Postby lonegunman88240 » Thu Oct 15, 2009 6:34 pm

hi everyone, im a 41 yo male, 5'11 280lbs i have type 2 diabetes, hypothyroid, suffered knee, hip, and lower back injuries 20 years ago, have chronic bursitus in my right arm and shoulder, been pretty much inactive, last janurary i was diagnosed with type 2 diabeties and thyroid problems after a rapid weight gain, my normal weight was 230, at the time my a1c was 9.7, since then still struggling with thyroid but dropped my a1c down to 6.0, been riding bicycle which helped alot, lately been doing modified pushups and modified tricep dips? made a little bit of gain and got some decent improvement in flexability, unable to work abs due to lower back pain, and my weight still the same even after a major increase in excercising and major diet changes
4 points on the a1c is a huge drop in blood sugar, the thyroid meds are keeping the hormone levels in check but not doing much for my metabolisim, anybody else going thru this any ideas hints tricks tips advice? any info is welcomed,

wow no advice? lets try this, lets forget about the diabetes, it is totally controlled as a matter of fact, its so controlled that dr considering letting me try and see if i can maintain without meds, which also says alot about my current diet, also as far as thyroid nothing to do there yet until hormone therapy is complete and dr decides whats next, my main concern is core strengthing and flexaibility, biking has helped my knee and hip tremendiously, in just a matter of months i am able to squat unassisted but there are muscle groups biking doesnt seem to be helping with much such as glutes and the inner thigh area, the modified push ups and tricep lifts has also worked for arm and shoulder, but still feeling some pain doing regular push ups, what im looking for is other type exercises that i can ease into slowly to strengthen weak areas so eventually i may be able to get into a real workout schedule, i know you guys arent drs and physical therapist but maybe somebody has some ideas, thanks in advance

well basiclly i cut out nearly all dairy products, cut way back on red meats, if i eat read meat its about 3 ounces of lean, increased my salads and use only vinigar based dressings, drink 2 or 3 gallons of water a day, and try like crazy to stay away from anything considered processed food, basiclly what i do is look at the sugar, corn syrup and simple carbs, try to keep them low as possible, and look at the fiber and get it as high as possible, you probably know simple carbs turns to sugar quickly and floods your system, fiber helps clean them from your system, and the 2 or 3 gallons of water a day helps eliminate it too, no special diets here just more watchful, i do have a little no fat milk, cottage cheese, and non processed cheese, and when i have pasta it usually just about a handful, i know simple carb but damn i love it lol also i try to stretch it out all day 5 or 6 small meals

sorry missed part of the post, ride mountain bike 5 to 10 miles 3 or 4 times a week, but try to do at least 1 mile a day just to keep everything stretched out, modified push up, feet planted on floor leaning against table at about 45 degree angle straight legged i do 1 pushup then pause 1 sec before the next,
i havent been counting i just do it until i get a good burn going, then take a minute break then do it again until i get a good burn going, i'll do that 3 or 4 times, and the triceps, i'll place my hands on bench next to me scoot forward til my butt is just scaping the edge, straighten out legs, and lower and raise myself same routine as push ups, at first i could only lower myself a few inches, but now i can lower myself until my butt just almost touches floor, so i know im starting to get some decent flexability going, just dont want to push it to hard and reinjure some old injurys, thats about it for my routine at the moment oh yea i also do alot of cussing for letting myself go bad for so long lol
