quitting caffeine forever goal!

Postby musculArgirl2 » Tue Mar 06, 2012 10:40 am

I'm just going to hopefully do a short journal on my journey to quit caffeine. I try weaning myself off but it doesn't seem to work. I need too though. I don't drink coffee but i drink regular and diet soda. And i get headaches too often and i think that maybe apart of the reason why. :( Not to mention it's bad for me teeth.

I'm throwing out my diet soda that i have and am going to drink zevia soda and wean myself off of that. It's expensive so i don't want to drink that all the time. But it's an all natural soda in the organic section of my store.

I've tried a few times but i end up not staying with it. So i thought i would try again with just a post that i did it each day to help me stay focused. :)

Hopefully it 2 or 3 weeks i will be caffeine free. Start tomorrow on this. :)

Actually i guess i can start today just not with zevia.

Today i had 2 cans. No more. Now it's water the rest of the day or maybe some milk too. will do 2 cans tomorrow too. I just want to lower it slowly so i don't get any headaches.

Good luck girl. This is a really good idea. It's not the caffeine so much that is bad for you in soda, it's the sugar and artificial sweeteners. Nutrition scientists are thinking now that it may be the case that artificial sweeteners mess with our blood chemistry and hormones, which controls in large part how the fuel we eat is used in our bodies. There is some evidence that artificial sweeteners still trigger the weight-storage hormonal response in many people: insulin, so you gotta drop it! I was looking for a source to post to help, but they're all kind of over the top. Here is a short one: http://articles.businessinsider.com/201 ... -aspartame

Maybe try to switch to tea if you like tea, or flavour ice cold water with natural fruit juice like a squeeze of orange, lemon, or lime. Anything but diet or non-diet soda! You can do it!!

Good to know Athene! i do like ice tea i make it with stevia, lemon juice and some fruit juice. But you have to make it ahead of time which sometimes i don't do and than i go back to the soda.

I have a huge addiction to soda though. I love it. Not so much the diet stuff and realy not the regular stuff in cans. But actually mcdonalds coke. IT's really good! I don't drink mcdonalds coke that often though but because of the headaches i drink soda from the can even if i'm not super excited about it. But i really want to quit the soda habit all together just the last 4 years I've developed a bad habit. so see how it goes today.

Good luck girl. Is it the carbonated in the soda you like or the sweet taste? For Christmas of last year, my fiancé bought this machine that makes carbonated water and we put our own flavoring. We got it from Costco but you can also get it from Bed Bath & Beyond. Maybe that can help… Sometimes I just have plain carbonated water & no flavoring.

Carbonated water might increase belching, but I don't think, although I'm not sure, it will do much else mild or serious.

I love fountain drinks, too, it's so hard! I respect your goal a lot, and I know you can do it - especially if you set up a less-perfect-but-much-better-for-you alternative ; ) Even sparkling water in the fridge with a little fruit juice thrown could probably get you through a tight spot while you wean yourself off of the coke (haha, so literal). I bet a 1/4 cup of orange juice in some sparkling water would be really refreshing and tasty, especially if it was ice cold.

If you're still not sure about Carbonated water and its effects, try looking on sites like Medicinenet, Linus Pauling institute, Wisegeek etc and see if there's anything on those that might describe physiological interactions from C W.

i like plain water just as good as carbonated so i probably won't drink much carbonated so i'm not worried.

I have some bad news and good news. The bad news is  i went to the casino this weekend and i couldn't resist all the free soda that they give you so i drank more than 2 cans.

The good news is i broke pretty much even so i didn't lose, i actually was ahead for the most part and i had a good time and even better news i'm definitely not going to the casino for a while so i am back on track today. :) it's such an unheatlhy habit. I swear 85% of the people that go to casinos smoke and they all seem to sit right next to me! but the thing is it CAN be so much fun! when you are winning only though otherwise i hate it. I got my fill for quite a while though.

I saw a lady win 5200 at a slot machine yesterday. I so wish it could have been me!

Back to day 1 with two cans. i should have no more temptations for quite a while.

The answer is then stop going altogether and then won't end up choking on second hand smoke and potentially skint when your money's all gone

i don't go very often. I can't afford to go often. it was my sister's birthday last week and mine this week so we thought we would go. I don't want to go again for a long time.

2 cans of diet soda today. Day 1
