Egg's Whole or Whites ?

Ive read conflicting advice of late on eggs and as a large consumer i.e 3 or 4 per day im keen to hear opinions.

Skinny on Eggs.

1. Cooking then kills the Bacteria that can cause Salmonella.

2. Omega Eggs, come from Chickens who have been fed some Flax in their diet.

3. Egg Cholesterol levels are approximately 60% LDL, 40% HDL.

4. There is speculation or comment from certain quarters, of the medical and scientific community, that dietary Cholesterol has no real impact on Blood Cholesterol levels.

If you are concerned stick to one Yolk a day, as the Yolks are quite Fatty at around 45 calories per Yolk.

The Yolks do however contain Protein, Lutein, (helps prevent degeneration of the Macula, the part of the Retina responsible for Central vision), and Fat Soluable Vitamins, (A, D, E and K).

5. Scrambling, Poaching or Omelette Eggs are better ways to cook than Fried.

Thanks for the feedback Boss, i read an article last night put together by Doctors which tested the Cholsterol levels of high volume egg users ( they ranged from 4 - 18 per day ! ) the end result was an overall drecrease in the levels suggesting that the bodies natural Cholesterol manufacturing decreased when intake was increased.

I will keep eating & perhaps just lower on occassions the number of yolks depending how my fat loss program continues. I have so far lost 15kgs & consume reasonble quantities so something is working !

In this instance I would sway towards such an article, as it's probably been done by potentially more than one medical mind, in a proper controlled way, not one of those situations, where your GP tells you to stop eating any Potatos and have more Fruit, or something like that, which is their opinion based on some Blood and Cholesterol test, not based necessarily on proven studies.

Most doctors do often say the wrong things regards training and sometimes diet, but generally lab controlled studies by mulitiple proffessionals, yield better believable output.

There is a potential issue regarding the Cholesterol decrease, as I don't know what it was in the study, it could be a good thing, if LDL or total Cholesterol were too high, or potentially a bad thing if it made something like HDL go too low.

Fried vs. Scrambled?

Silly cooking question-

But what's the difference between scrambling an egg in a frying pan, making an omlette in the frying pan (which is essentially a scrambled egg), or frying an egg? It's all the same thing, isn't it? Frying an egg in a pan?

Would there be a difference if it was just egg whites versus whole eggs?

I take it hard-boiling is the "healthiest" then because not using a cooking spray?

The main difference probably is the fact Frying requires little movement of the Egg. the other's do require a bit more movement, which might help with things like texture and taste.

Plus scrambling doesn't require a frying pan necessarily, or to include a Fat source to cook it.

Poaching can also be done with a pan of water, as opposed to a poaching pan, so again, no need to add a fat source to cook with.

As for Whites over Whole, Whies are best, but Yolks still contain things like Fat soluable Vitamins, Protein and Lutein, although Omega Eggs can be better still.

You get those by giving Chickens a little Flax in their diet.

no matter what you say eggs are high in cholesterol, that's why i serve it only at breakfast twice a week.

Eggs contain roughly 60% LDL, 40% HDL Cholesterol. Science suggests there is little correlation between dietry and Blood Cholesterol, but the Yolks cna be limited, but as stated Omega Eggs, lack Cholesterol, so that's an alternative to traditional Eggs.
