Hi! I am terribly sorry for bothering you with begginers problems, but from all fitness forums I stumbled upon, this one seems the best, and I am desperately seeking for advice. Long story short: until one year ago I had physical activity of a regular student (playing football, swimming...) but suddenly I looked in a mirror and noticed I lost couple a pounds and gained a shape of adolescent (picture before-now http://i47.tinypic.com/b6txq9.jpg
). I don't know the reason, I thought it's because of nutrition, but I am eating 4 times a day. I thought bad posture due to my college commitments and work (programming etc.) is one of the reasons, so I started going to the gym. But, after a year, my definition stayed the same. Only thing I gained is lower back pain when I am doing crunches. So, my begginers questions are:
- I read a lot of articles and books about proper nutrition so I won't be bothering with that, although I'm curious about one thing (every time I asked this I got different answer): Mass gainers - worth buying or not? One gym coach told me that's the best supplement (the emphasis is on "supplement", ofcourse) for guys like me who want to bulk up. But after I tried it for a month and gained a mass in my buttocks and asked other coach what I'm doing wrong (because obviously I am), he said to stay away from it as a begginer, and that protein shakes with grape suger will do justice. About protein shakes, I can't afford buying various proteins every month, and honestly, I'm lost in that categories.. PWM protein, slow absorbing protein, protein with this fancy additive, with that additive.. to put in short, what kind of protein is most important for begginer? That one to drink right after the exercise? Or before going to sleep, or something third?
- I am not aiming to have enviable muscle mass, I just want to move from girly physique, and after a few reading, I noticed weak core muscles might be a problem as well, is there any truth in that assumption?
-lower back pain. Someone told me stretching would do the justice, the only thing is that I don't know any proper stretching exercise. I downloaded (and buyed) a few videos, but they are mostly for experienced athletes, so if you have some good link to reccomend, I'll be grateful.
-impossibility to gain mass in a first place: i checked the blood sample and it was all o.k., but the doctor told me to try enzime supplements, but I haven't tried them yet because of my student budget
What do you think, is it worth buying?
I hope I'm not tiresome, and I also apologize for my sloppy english, it's been a while since I wrote a post on a foreign forum. Unfortunately, my country doesn't have adequate forum for such topics.
