This is posted in the cardio section too but i think boss's idea for run/walking is great for starting out. especially if you have some weight to lose or are really new to working out.

Walk fairly moderately for 2 minutes 50 seconds, then Jog for 10 seconds. This is a cycle. Do 10 cycles, so you move for 30 minutes in total.
Do 5 cycles a week, doing 3 days, 1 off, 2 days 1 off, so you're not pushing yourself 5 days straight.
In week 2, walk for 2 minutes 40 seconds, jog for 20 seconds, 10 of those cycles making up your 30 minutes.
Week 3, walk for 2 minutes 30 seconds, jog for 30 seconds, 10 of those cycles making up your 30 minutes.
See a pattern emerging?
Try that and hopefully in around 17-18 weeks you'll be jogging 30 minutes non-stop .
I'm doing it right now. Week 2 this week.
