I need tips!

Postby wolfen147 » Sat Oct 17, 2009 11:32 am

Hello!

So I'm starting to get lazy! Oh no! I'm starting to slack in my cardio, so I need tips! It gets boring doing the same thing for 30 mins. I try to switch between treadmill/elliptical/bike/jumprope but I find it hard to keep going >.< Also my diet is starting to slip.

So I'd love some tips and motivation if you'd be so kind :D

Thanks in advance!

I weigh 297lbs, down from 312 from when I started trying to lose weight. I have a diet journal in the Diet Journals section of the forum.

I really need to buckle down harder. I'm sick of being lazy all the time.

Keep the cardio interesting. I do a lot of intervals, or switch between bikes/running/jumping (as you said you do) sometimes. The music thing helps a lot too.
As for the diet, you have been doing *awesome*. But this is also probably a big huge change from what you are used to doing, and sometimes big huge changes can be tough. I would suggest sticking in a few "treat" things.

Remember, 90% of what you eat should be good and awesome and healthy. The other 10% (roughly 3 meals a week at 6 meals/day), can be "cheats". If you want a burger, have one, just don't do it every day. I eat candy on Friday or Saturday nights. Usually pb mms or cake, but halloween is upon us and I've graduated for candy corn for the month (: I do sooOOOoo look forward to my weekly candy. I don't even need much to keep me happy anymore. (After about 10 mms I start to feel kinda sick anyway). So start slowly. You have been doing awesome. Treat yourself!

By the way, if you decide to sneak a lil candy or something, it is best to do it right after you work out. Your body can use the quick sugar to replenish glycogen stores.

You are doing really really well. Take it slow. Slow is better because you are more likely to stick with it, the results you get will last longer, (more of a lifestyle than a "diet" or a temporary change), and you won't get loose skin or stretch marks. Remember how good it felt when you lost the first couple pounds? Concentrate on it, because that good feeling doesn't go away. If anything, it gets bigger with each new accomplishment!

Try music, try intervals, and just mix it up! (Cardio bores me to tears, Today's Cardio: Kickball. Oh yes!)

NEVER work out on an empty stomach. That is asking for some very serious problems, not the least of which is a potential seizure.

The problem is that some studies have shown that fat burning doesn't really start until you're 20 minutes into your cardio workout. That means you've wasted 20 minutes without a good source of fuel to sustain you. That could lead to fatigue before your body even starts metabolizing fat, which might mean shorter (and/or crappier) workouts in which you burn less calories than if you'd eaten a small snack to keep you going you. Critics also say you may even burn muscle if you don't have the necessary fuel for your workouts.

There are some other benefits to eating before your workout:

It can boost recovery and strength gains
It can help you sustain longer, more intense workouts
It can help you avoid low blood sugar, which can make you feel dizzy or nauseous
It can make your workouts more enjoyable (since you're not thinking about eating the whole time)

I realize the seizure thing is slightly exaggerated, but it does happen, and I have seen it. It is very very scary.

Cardio on empty.

1. Can burn muscle sometimes, but yes some Fat for energy.

2. Can cause dizzy spells, as mentioned by another member here before, from personal experience with clients.

3. Common sense dictates, why would you do something that lowers Blood Sugar, when it's already low?

Another thing eating before workouts might do, as well as promoting muscle retention, is also possibly helping with recovery, as you'd use ingested Carbs for energy, before eating into Glycogen stores.

Remember that you don't burn fat for hours after workotus, because that pretty much stops when you eat after a workout, as the body sources energy from the meal you eat, not the secondary energy it scavanges from something like Body Fat.

Omega 3's are also in Flax, Omega Eggs, (Chickens fed some Flax), Nuts, Avocado, Oils, Seeds, Peanuts and Soy. They convert in part to EPA and DHA in an in vivo situation, so you don't need a lot of Fish, to get Omega 3, because don't forget, Fish can contain Mercury and potentially other heavy metals like Cadmium and Lead.

Your car does not run without gas. Your body does not run without energy. If you do not fuel yourself, you will not operate efficiently. Period.

Enzymes do not provide energy, they lower the activation energy of a reaction so that it may occur. They are efficiency molecules. The "fat enzymes" to which you are referring are most likely lipases which break down fat. The fat is the energy, not the enzyme. However, your body will NOT burn fat if it thinks you are going to starve. IF you are inconsistent with your input, or are constantly "running on empty" your body will work to preserve itself by eliminating non-essential processes first, and reserving as much energy as possible. This is why you do not eat 1 2000cal meal/day. You eat several smaller meals.

No intake + mucho output = starvation.

In which case, rather than burning fat your body will indiscriminately burn off anything it can. Fat is EXTREMELY difficult to break down. Amino Acids chains (like protein, which is muscle mass) are easier to break down. Guess what your body does if it thinks it's gonna starve. Hint: It does not go after energy reserves if it thinks it will need them to survive.

total bullshit

a very out dated theory, right there with those fat burning vibration machines with the big rubber thing around your waist

hope i'm not gonna be too harsh here...

the bigger you are, the less cheats you should have

you need to change your behaviours and continuing to eat shit is not gonna do it and your body won't learn how to de-crave if you keep giving in to it

i'm not sure why the motivation has dropped either

you've lost 15pds or whatever it is which is good but your still 297pds at age17 so wehichever way you look at it, positive or negative, there should be motivation for you in either of those

think how long it has teken to take that wt off..now halve it and that's the time it will take to put it back one, + interest if you're not careful

Abrupt changes are much more difficult to maintain.

That's exactly what I need to hear Swanso :) It's good to be harsh sometimes, because occasionally I need that information pounded into my head for me to get a grip of the reality of the situation. I'm going to buckle down starting on monday (Sundays are my off days).

Thanks you guys!
